Lala's Book Corner: Betrayals by Lili St. Crow

Hey guys, how you all doing? First of all I want to wish to all my Followers and Readers in The U.S. an amazing Thanksgiving and that you all enjoy this holiday in the best way you can. I am definitely thankful for you all being here and supporting my little corner in the Blogiverse. Thank you!

On a different note, Twitter is ruining my life LOL. I mean, before, I used to read up to 1 or 2 books a day. Now, it takes me days to finish one single book. That is so freaking annoying hehe. With that said, I have to say, hanging out on Twitter with all of you is absolutely fantastic, so I guess I can’t really complain =)))

Let’s get into the Review shall we folks? I hope it didn’t come too long, but I guess I felt like sharing my thoughts with you. Hope you enjoy it.

Dru’s life has never been a smooth ride, that’s for sure. She lost her mother as an infant, her grandma as a young teen and just a couple weeks before, she just fund out she is a Dhjampir (part-Nosferatu) and her father was turned into a zombie and tried to kill her. Having to kill one’s father for good and running for your life, is definitely not what Dru wanted for her life.

In Betrayals Dru is finally somewhere safe, the Order Schola. Or so she is led to believe. However, someone is still trying to kill her and all signs point to a traitor within the place she was supposed to feel safe in.

I found “Strange Angels” a very good start for this series. One might have seen a teen girl and her dad hunting for the things that go bump in the night and immediately thought of “Supernatural”. I agree that it did ring a bell, but “Betrayals” put that right out of my mind.

Dru’s life gets much more complicated in this book and not knowing in whom to put her trust is a constant issue throughout the novel. Graves and Christophe are back and their relationship with Dru just gets more complicated and confusing.

"It hurt. Have you ever been so sick dying seems like an okay thing because it will make the feeling stop? Have you ever felt something inside you—something you never noticed before, something rooted deep in your chest—getting ripped up inch by inch?", [St. Crow, Lili, Betrayals]

This book is very dark for a YA series. However, one my favorite things about this novel, was Lilith’s unusual take on Vamps and Wulfens (Werewolves). Nothing is Romanticized and Dru’s obstacles and pain is incredibly felt throughout the book.

Even the humorous aspects of the novels have a dark feel to it, but they do fit nicely with the pace and world built by the author.

"God, how I wished for a gun. Any gun, even a .22. A nine-millimeter would be better. A .45 or an assault rifle would be the best. And someone to work it who had a bead on this thing would be awful nice too. And while I’m dreaming, I’d really like a pony.", [St. Crow, Lili, Betrayals]

Only Lili could have made me laugh out loud while the heroine was running for her life =)

Despite many positive factors, this book was far from perfect. I felt that the pace got a bit stale at times and whenever a novel makes it easy for me to take a break from it, it means that it is not captivating enough to capture my whole attention.

I don’t want to be insensitive and I can totally get behind Dru’s pain in losing her father, mother and grandma. However, I felt that her internal “whining” over it was detrimental to the stories pace and that bothered me a little.

All in all, Strange Angels is not my favorite YA series out there, but the characters are plenty lovable, interesting as is their world. I really want to know what happens next, so I will definitely keep reading the series =)

It might not be the best out there in YA world, but it is definitely worth your while.

I'll give it 3 and a half Loveys!

Thanks for tuning in and see you soon!

xoxo

Lala's Book Corner: Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow

I am so happy to see you guys enjoyed the product of my devious mind! If you don't know what I am talking about, check out my previous post :) The response was awesome and it made me *Squee* seeing my modest little badge around in BlogWorld... I am a happy blogger today :)
Well, at the moment I'm reading "Betrayals", which is the second book on the "Strange Angels" series by Lili St. Crow. A Pseudonym used by Lilith Saintcrow. Therefor, I decided to post a review for the first book in the series "Strange Angels" today and the review for the 2nd as soon as I finish it =)

"Dru Anderson has what her grandmother called “the touch.” (Comes in handy when you’re traveling from town to town with your dad, hunting ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and the occasional zombie.)

Then her dad turns up dead—but still walking—and Dru knows she’s next. Even worse, she’s got two guys hungry for her affections, and they’re not about to let the fiercely independent Dru go it alone. Will Dru discover just how special she really is before coming face-to-fang with whatever—orwhoever— is hunting her?"

From GoodReads.

I got to reading this series right after my first Lilith Saintcrow series, "The Jill Kismet" series. I liked her style and decided to check out her YA book.

Dru has been living on the road for almost all her life with her dad, hunting things that go bump in the night. Her mother has died in a mysterious manner and her grandma passed away years before. At an early age Dru's grandma has trained her to deal with she called her "touch" and with that talent Dru has been able to help her father in his quest.

However, her world gets turned upside down when her father becomes one of the things he used to hunt and Dru has to deal with it herself. She is alone now and very much in shock and lost.

This book takes us on her journey dealing with the aftermath of her father's death, Grieves - a new friend - and finding out that her "touch" might be much more than she bargained for.

I don't like comparing series of the same genre, I believe that each series and Author has their own value and I evaluate every new book that way. If the character's story moves me and makes me want more, that's a winner in my view.

I find that this series has a lot of potential. Dru's pain was mine a lot of the time and I shed tears in her behalf. Grieves is a very interesting secondary character and I am very interested to see where his and Dru's relationship evolves to.

I'm going to give this book 3 and a Half Loveys. It was not extraordinary, but it definitely has a lot of potential.

Book #2 of the series is Betrayals

Thanks for tuning in and I'll see you soon!

*Disclaimer: I apologize to those of you who might find annoying that I am writing only reviews for Lilith's books. But when I like an author, I like to go through her work and that's what is going on right now.
