Guest Post + SIGNED Book Giveaway by Jeaniene Frost!

Holidays: Let the mayhem begin.

Thanksgiving is Thursday, so there's no denying it anymore - the holiday season is upon us. As a child, the holiday period of Thanksgiving through New Years Day was a time of glee for me because it meant lots of yummy food, presents, days off school, and playing with relatives I didn't get to see all the time.

Ahem. And then I grew up and realized all the time, planning, stress, money, and hassle it took to give me, my sisters, cousins, second cousins, etc., those gleeful memories. That was the true gift we received. I can count on one hand specific presents I remember getting during the holidays as a child, but if you ask me to recount stories of the time spent with my family/extended family, I could go on for hours. Some of those stories we'd laugh at now, but they weren't so funny at the time. Still, it's their craziness that makes them the most memorable. This is probably why some of my favorite holiday movies are zany, dark comedies like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, The Ref, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. What didn't go wrong with those families during those fictional accounts, right? But by the end, ties were strengthened and/or new friendships made. Sometimes, the most heartwarming moments are preceded by darkness tinged with hysteria-laden laughter.

Because holidays usually have an emotional impact on people - and can magnify current stresses to a fever pitch - I've used them in some of my books. At Grave's End has a pivotal scene on Christmas Day and climaxes on New Year's Eve. One Grave at a Time has a plot thread centered around Halloween. In my latest story in The Bite Before Christmas anthology, all my heroine Cat wants to do is have a normal holiday at home with her husband and friends. Instead, due to a slew of circumstances, she's forced to spend Thanksgiving in a strip club with her frenemy, Ian, while trying to save Bones and the others from a supernatural baddie who's got them in a deadly thrall. After all, holiday mayhem shouldn't be limited to only "real" people, right? *wink* Even fictional characters are due for some of that seasonal madness.

What are your plans this holiday season? And in the past, has everything ever gone as smoothly as you intended it? Everyone who comments will be eligible to win a signed copy of The Bite Before Christmas, co-authored by Lynsay Sands and me. International entries are welcome. Thanks so much, and happy holidays, everyone!

Top 5 Sundays #59 – Books/Series That Should Be Movies!

Hi guys!

I have to share with you guys the reason I decided to add this theme in the last couple “Top 5 Sundays” polls.

I have to be honest and say that I tend to not being a fan of Books turning into movies. Not that I don’t LOVE the idea of seeing my fave characters in the flesh, but after being more burned than not, I tend to be cautious.

Don’t get me wrong, I will be a fan girl and rush to the theater for those movies, but more often than not they usually don’t reach even close to my expectations =/

However, a couple of years ago I read an Urban Fantasy book that made me for the first time EVER think: “This would make an awesome movie!” – So much so that I rushed to my dad to tell him about the plot and gush and simply go and on as he stood there looking at me like I was crazy LOL

Oh well! hehe So that is the reason for this theme and the book I was just talking about is the first one listed bellow =D

I can’t wait to see your lists!

   This week’s results:

Books That Should Be Movies! = 15 (78%)

Favorite Reading Spots! = 4 (21%)

The theme for today is:

One Grave at a Time: A Night Huntress Novel

*SPOILER FREE

Cat & Bones are back again! Two Cat & Bones novels in one year is awesome! I am also very happy to say that I enjoyed One Grave at a Time much more than I did This Side of the Grave. The action was pretty great and we had a lot of Ian time, which I adored.

I also enjoyed the military plotline and I hope we get more of it in the next book.

One Grave at a Time was still not my fave in the series, but not my least favorite either =)  I also missed Vlad in this one, though I will forgive Jeaniene, because we do have his spin-off coming up hehe.

Now onto the bad news =/ Sigh, what was once one of my favorite UF couples, might be hitting a bit of stagnant period in their relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I still love them, but they are so happy and stable together that I have to agree with my girl Danielle from ALPHA reader, it might be time to bring in an amnesia plotline or throw in the towel and have this power duo as beloved secondary characters in Vlad’s spin-off.

All in all, I am not ready to give up on this series yet, not even close. I love Jeaniene’s writing, world and stories and all that will definitely keep me coming back for more again and again, specially since Jeaniene has absolutely becoma an auto-buy author for me. This is an amazing series and a must read for any Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance fan out there!

But, I do have come to expect a lot from this series, and the last couple books just haven’t reached my expectations of greatness for these characters.
