Lala's Book Corner / Demonica Week - Day #1 Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione

"In a place where ecstasy can cost you your life . . .

She's a demon-slayer who hungers for sensual pleasure-but fears it will always be denied her. Until Tayla Mancuso lands in a hospital run by demons in disguise, and the head doctor, Eidolon, makes her body burn with unslakable desire. But to prove her ultimate loyalty to her peers, she must betray the surgeon who saved her life.

Two lovers will dare to risk all.

Eidolon cannot resist this fiery, dangerous woman who fills him with both rage and passion. Not only is she his avowed enemy, but she could very well be the hunter who has been preying upon his people. Torn between his need for the truth and his quest to find his perfect mate before a horrific transformation claims him forever, Eidolon will dare the unthinkable-and let Tayla possess him, body and soul..."

How to better start Demonica Week than with the Review of Book 1 in the series? Here we go:

I bought this series in one bundle at one of my favorite eBook stores. The blurbs of each book caught my attention, but I had yet to find out if I was going to like it or not. I have to say that I loved it!

I loved Ione's writing, the world and characters she created and the plot. The world is extremely interesting and I really enjoy when the lines between evil and good are not quite so clear. For me, that just makes the characters more interesting and have more depth.

Tayla is a Demon Slayer and has dedicated her life to rid the world of the "evil" creatures of the night. What she never knew and didn't expect to discover, was that Demons, like humans, have a choice and that some have chosen to be good people despite their nature. The same way a can be born inherently good and turn to evil. Demons can be born evil and choose to do good and fight their inner maleficence.

It is a tough lesson for Tayla to learn, since for that to happen she needs to shuck out all she thought was true. The hardest truth she has had to deal in this novel though, was about her own nature. She is more a part of that so-called evil world than she could have ever had imagined.

"Everything she thought she’d known about demons was wrong. Vegetarian demons? Demons who cured instead of killed? Her simple black-and-white world had gone about a million shades of gray."

Eidolon is a Demon, but more importantly, he is an ER Doctor and owner of the Underworld General Hospital. An hospital where Demons, Vamps, Weres and the likes can get treatment by specialized doctors. Eidolon saves Tayla's life and is through and with him that she learn that the world is more gray than Black&White.

"his desire to take her again went beyond patching his pride or even slaking the ever-present lust that plagued his breed. He’d never encountered anyone who radiated such a fierce will to live. Her life force drew him, her fire fascinated him, and her sensuality held him in an iron grip he couldn’t break."

Eidolon is hot as hell (no pun intended hehe) and I really liked him as a character. Strong personality, strong beliefs and a strong sense of loyalty that I find admirable. I found Tayla to be an incredible leading lady and one of the strongest and most lovable heroines I have ever seen. I love them as a couple and can't wait to get glimpses of them in the next books =)

It can be argued that the evil/good duality can get tiring. However, in my opinion, that is something that I believe made the book and the world Larissa Ione created, much better. The line between evil and good, hero and villain is one that is never a 100% defined and that for me, is one of the things that got me on the edge of my seat while reading Pleasure Unbound.

The other thing that definitely heated up my blood, were the sex scenes. Hot Damn! Tayla and Eidolon's passion was so awesome and Ione's writing of their passion, sex and love was incredible.

This series has joined my favorites in my heart and Larissa Ione is a must read for me now.

I'll give 5/5 loveys!

Smut Level is 5/5 too =)))

  1. Oh, yay!!!! I'm so glad you liked it! Eidolon and Tayla will always have a special place in my heart -- they started it all, and Eidolon really holds the family together.

Thanks again for everything, Larissa! You SO rock!

  2. Eidolon may be my favorite of the brothers. He's a man's man--responsible, strong, responsible, a hot/sexy demon doctor. I love E! Tayla is great too and they balance each other out--she can handle E's arrogant high-handedness.

    great review larissa!

  3. Great review, Larissa! I loved this book, I'm so glad you guys picked it for the Smut View or it would have taken me longer to get around to it. Now I'm freaking dying to get the other books.

Shade is my main man but I think I relate the most with Eidolon.

  4. Linda says:

Sure I remember how Eidolon and Tayla began the series. Picked the book up at the local bookstore, and was engrossed to the point of reading this book in one night.

  5. @Larissa

  7. Kimi says:

I fell in love with this series the second I read about E. The whole world that Larissa has created is exciting and interesting and I wanted to read more about all the cool things she created for this world. If you like demons you will LOVE this book and this series. It's very rare that you will find a book let alone a series that will satisfy your desire to know about the world of demons. Considering this is a world that Larissa created, I'm jealous and excited about all the possibilities. So than you Larissa!

  8. @Sinn

  18. Twimom227 says:

My girlfriend gave me the first two books a year ago (just before book 3 came out). I have to say the idea "demon that MUST have sex to live" as an ER doctor sounded like a porn plot. HOWEVER, once I started reading I COULDN'T put the book down. Each one just gets better. Great review... Great week!

  19. Thanks for the comments guys!

Your review was fabulous, Larissa :) I remember picking this book up randomly in a bookstore and then literally staying up all night to read it - her world was so vivid and the characters were so well written that I had to find out what happened next! Then after I read it, I went to bed and woke up to re-read it for any parts I missed - it was THAT good :) Previous to this I hadn't really been into paranormal romance - that is SO not the case now!

  36. Great Review!

I was so excited that one half of Sydney Croft was releasing her own series and instead of hot xmen it was hot demons and the COVER was to do for.

Suffice to say when I finished Eidolon's book, I mean, devoured, it lived up to the hype I built around it lol
