After coming out of such a high that was "Ashes of Midnight" in my opinion, I found that Shades of Midnight fell short. I felt the story was so slow in the beginning and it took me a while to actually care for Kade and Alexandra.

Kade has been in the series for a few books, but we never got much contact with him and to be quite honest I wasn't really invested in him much. He did become an interesting character for me and had some cool twists and turns in the story that made me really care for him, but until then it was a struggle.
On the other hand, I liked Alex from the get go. Though she says she is a coward at times, I found her extremely strong and brave, a great heroine and a perfect match for Kade. Their chemistry was awesome and though there weren't that many sex scenes, the ones that happened, were damn hot!
The plot took a while to take off and having the story take place far from Boston and the other warriors was a mistake IMO. I missed them and their mates around. When the plot did pick up, it was very interesting and it moved forward quite nicely.
I still love this series, but I feel this book was a bump in road, one I am willing to let go and I can't wait for the next book.
I tried to get into this series awhile ago and just couldn't. Maybe I will try again some day :)
Loved the review. I totally agree with you on Kade. Just didn't connect with him like I did the others. Loved Alex. She rocks! I love the Midnight Breed and I hope the next book will be better because I have invested so much into this series.

This is one of my favorite series. But I'm behind on it. I still need to read this one and the last one Ashes of Midnight.
I have heard similar thoughts on Ashes of Midnight which makes me kinda sad. :( I'll still read them but now I'll drag me feet a bit.

I'm really going to have to read this series! I think when a series gets really big, there's bound to be a book or two that doesn't flow with the rest of them.
