Winner will be announced soon!
Hey Guys! How are you all doing this lovely Tuesday?
I am very happy to have here today a very cool new author that had her debut release earlier this year, Nicole Peeler! Her Jane True series is a great addition to the Urban Fantasy genre and it’s 2 books deep right now with more planned to release soon =)
Nicole is being super awesome and is offering a Signed copy of the second book in the series, Tracking The Tempest, how cool is that?
You can find out the giveaway deets at the end of the post. Without further ado, I present you the interview… Enjoy!
When did you first start writing?
Tempest Rising was actually my first novel, but I’ve been writing for academia for a long time.
Have you always enjoyed Fantasy?
I have! I read a lot of fantasy when I was younger. I liked how it could be very escapist, in setting, but deal with a lot of very pertinent issues for me.
Why writing Urban Fantasy?
I think UF is great, because it lets you play with lots of genres in one. My book has a lot of fantasy, romantic, and mystery elements and I’m happy I didn’t have to pick one of those over the others.
Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?
Too many to name! But in terms of my own fiction writing, I’d say Mercedes Lackey, David Eddings, Susan Cooper, and Charles de Lint were important early influences.
What is your favorite subject in the Urban Fantasy Realm?
I love playing with the mythology. It’s fun to research and to write.
What made you decide to get out of the Vamp/were/witch/Fae box and have your heroine be half-selkie?
I figured the mythology played to my strengths. Selkies aren’t very intimidating mythological creatures, and I’m too self deprecating to write a more typical heroine.
Favorites:
Favorite Paranormal themed Movie?
Probably The Company of Wolves.
Favorite Paranormal themed TV Show?
I no longer own a TV, but I loved Forever Knight when I was a kid.
Favorite Paranormal themed Book?
Probably Greenmantle by Charles de Lint
Favorite Author?
Too many to name!
Favorite one of your Books so far?
I think each book is a pretty steep learning curve, so each one is my favorite as I write it.
Who is your favorite of your own characters?
I loved writing Salim, who is a tiny character in Book 2.
Which was the hardest to write?
I don’t really have one that’s difficult. Their voices are all very clear to me, for some reason.
What would you be if not a writer?
Writing is my second job, actually. I’m a full time professor for my day job.
Quickies:
- Coffee or Tea? Coffee!
- Up or Down? Down!
- Virtual or Real? Real!
- Right or Left? Left!
- Day or Night? Night!
- Here or There? There!
- Sooner or Later? Sooner!
- Light or Dark? Dark!
- Fast or Slow? Fast!
- Vampires or Werewolves? Werewolves!
- Selkies or Kelpies? Selkies!
- Angels or Demons? Demons!
- Reading or Writing? Reading!
Was Tempest Rising the first book you had written?
Yes, it was.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Probably the actual writing, when everything’s really flowing.
What is your least favorite part?
Pinning down a resistant outline.
The Jane True Series in your own words?
Sassy, sexy, salt-watery.
How many books do you have planned for the series?
Six, and then hopefully some spinoffs.
What is coming up next for you?
I just started a new job teaching in the MFA at Seton Hill, called Writing Popular Fiction. And I’m writing book four.
What are you working on right now?
Jane True Book Four: Eye of the Tempest.
Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published Author someday?
Learn to seek out harsh criticism, learn to write even when you don’t feel like it, and never wait for your muse. Writing is a job, not a mystical process.
Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
I love my fans! They’re so passionate about Jane and her adventures and they make it all so fun!
Thank you so much for being here!
Thanks for having me! I really appreciate it.
