5 Year Blogoversary Celebration! – A Letter to Reader, Bloggers & Authors + Giveaway!

5year blogoversary

Hey everyone! I almost missed the date, I’ve so busy at work =/ But it’s here! My little corner of the blogosphere is completing 5 years today (Saturday).

It is funny to think how much things can change in a year. I look back at last year’s celebration and see an awesome event that I am very proud of, but then I look at right now and realize that not only have I almost let the date slip by, but I also have nothing planed =/

Well, I decided to do something different this year, I’m still going to give something away, but I also wanted to write a meaningful post to all my readers, fellow bloggers and beloved authors out there.

First and foremost I would like to apologize some things. Number one, I am sorry for not being around much lately and posting on the blog much less frequently than usual.

Life gets in the way and for once I have a job I actually love and it has been keeping me exhausted all the time.

Number two, I’m sorry if I still haven’t sent you your prize from this year’s Book Boyfriend giveaway =( we, my dad and I, have been having a tight year and haven’t been able to afford the posting for a couple of the prizes. I WILL be sending them out as soon as I get paid in December! I promise!

Number three, I’m sorry for not commenting on anyone’s blog lately =/ I love drowning in my reader, read your posts and comment. I was doing it at least once a week, but again I haven’t been able to lately =/

Now for the good part…

Thank you SO much for all the love you all have been giving me since I started reviewing since 2009. This blog has been around since 2007, but it was strictly a personal blog for a while, my reviewing thing came up later on and has been going on ever since.

I LOVE Blogging! It makes me so happy to share my love for books with you all and the opportunities I have had because of it were incredible!

I was Larissa Ione’s roommate for a night, had bday dinner with Lara Adrian, danced with both of them, got to be a part of a panel at AAD, got nominated for Blog of the year, was mentioned in the Acknowledgements of Eternal Ride by Larissa Ione, attending the NY Comic Con… Things I would have never have imagined in ONE MILLION YEARS!

I have met amazing bloggers like Damaris from a Good Choice Reading, Danielle from ALPHA Reader, Jackie from Literary Escapism, Terry from Reading on the Backseat, the girls from Paranormal Haven and so many more,  both in person and online,

I have met as well, incredible authors that not only write well but are fantastic people as well like Kitty Thomas, Gini Koch, Carolyn Crane, Dakota Cassidy, Nancy Holzner, Jeaniene Frost, Jocelynn Drake and SO MANY more that I adore!

Last but not least, I have been able to be silly, try new things and expand my reading horizons all because of YOU!

So I need to say…

THANK YOU!

~I’m so sorry if I forgot to mention someone! I love you all!

Review: Awakening by Kitty Thomas

Awakening

Nerina has lived all her life as a mermaid, fascinated by humans and land but also repulsed by sex and unable to understand love. Her curiosity gets her captured by a human male intent on awakening her lust and turning her human. But Nerina doesn’t believe the legend is real and fears Kyros will kill her when he learns she can’t transform.

This work is a novella of 21,500 words which will take the average reader 1 to 2 hours to read, depending on personal reading speed. The work is "meant" to be short.

For those unfammiliar with Kitty's work, this story in many respects is more "tame" than some of her other work, but it is still erotica with a master/slave and kidnap element.

Kitty Thomas is such a fantastic author! I have yet to be even a little disappointed in anything she has written. She just keeps dazzling me with every story she puts out.

Therefore, it is NO surprise to me that Awakening in the same footsteps of her previous novelas.

Awakening is definitely a tamer story by Kitty, in a away more romantic than her other works, but never compromising her style or genre while being compelling and hypnotic just the same.

I feel that if you ever wanted to read a Kitty Thomas story, this is the perfect place to start!

Danielle from ALPHA Reader says:

“(Kitty) takes what would otherwise be an uncomfortable and squirm-inducing idea and crafts it into a beautiful tale of human dynamics and lust, exploring the many facets of want and craving. Divine.” – ALPHA Reader

I could have never said it better than that and I wholeheartedly agree! What are you waiting for? Go pick up Awakening right now =)

Review: The Auction by Kitty Thomas

The Auction

DESCRIPTION:
Belle Walker lives in a strict society where women are treated as property, sold to the highest bidder soon after their eighteenth birthday. But the auction isn't the only danger. Though she's never seen them, she knows monsters live outside the city. These creatures have allowed the humans a small area to inhabit with the promise to leave them in peace as long as they never cross the boundary. On the day Belle is sold, one of the monsters breaks that promise and enters the city, intent on having her as his own.

**This book is intended for an adult audience and contains master/slave, multiple partners, girl on girl, alien sex, and oral play.**

Kitty rocks! I just had to get that out the way. She just has a way with words and making such topics and genres not only amazingly compelling but unputdownable.

The Auction is a superb Dark Erotica Novella that I read in less than 1h and a half. Sexy, hot, creepy and arousing, all at the same time. I could have never told from the cover, but The Auction has some sci-fi elements, all of which just made the story that much richer.

In The Auction we get introduced to Belle, while she is waiting to be sold to the highest bidder. In her world, women being sold and owned is a common thing, especially since she lives in a society that had to rebuild itself in another planet and has a quite different moral system then our own.

Unexpectedly, she gets bought by one of the local “monsters” and takes away from the only world she has ever known. With Master and Sir, she learns a lot about herself, pain, pleasure and life.

I loved how this time around the Master is literally from another planet, one of my favorite blogger made an excellent point by saying:

“I thought the inclusion of ‘monster masters’ was quite ingenious – so often in Kitty’s works the dominant (human) male is bordering on demonic (‘Comfort Food’, being a prime example). But in ‘The Auction’ the heroine’s sexual partners are, literally, monsters – and one of them even has a devilish resemblance. It’s a nice bit of fantasy to play with.” – ALPHA Reader

I totally agree with it and I think that The Auction just shows how awesome Kitty is and I have to say, I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

The theme for today is:

Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR!

But first, a little bit about this feature and the rules to join in…

Every Sunday I will post a TOP 5 list on the blog. It can be about anything and every week I'll have a new theme {You can vote on next week’s theme on my left sidebar!} and I will ad the Mr.Linky bellow the post so you can do a list with the theme and add you link to it.

Rules:

  1. Write a post listing your TOP 5 choices within the theme I chose (or was chosen on a poll) for the week.

  2. Mention this Blog on the post and link back to it.

  3. Fell free to use the Feature's image (there is a smaller size version of it bellow)

  4. After you've finished your post, add you link (of the post, not your blog's main page) to the Mr.Linky at the end of that week's post.

This week’s theme is Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR!

I am an avid Paranormal devourer reader, YA, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and anything that might fit in that category, but even a lover like me needs a break once in a while and here are some of the genres I usually turn to =)

*in no particular order

Literary {S&M/Ms} Erotica

Tender Mercies Comfort Foodimage

LOVE Kitty Thomas books and from her rec I ended up reading “As She’s Told” and Loved it as well!

Definitely not a genre for everyone.

Gay Romance

All She Wrote (Holmes & Moriarity, #2)Trust Me If You Dare (Romano and Albright, #2)

I am a huge Josh Lanyon fan and I’ll read anything he puts put, but his more humorous side is awesome and led me to L.B. Gregg, Score!

Contemporary Romance

The Royal Treatment (Alaskan Royal Family, #1)The Unidentified Redhead (The Redhead Series, #1)Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1)

For the longest time I turned my nose to contemporary romance, but I finally gave in and I am so glad I did!

The funny incarnations by MJD, Victoria Dahl and Alice Clayton are amongst the best!

Space Opera

Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1)Alien in the Family (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #3)

Spaceships, Alien and Adventures Oh My!

Fantasy

Eyes Of Crow (Aspect of Crow, #1)Northern Lights (His Dark Materials, #1)The Fellowship of the Ring

Not to dis the Urban kind, but pure Fantasy will always have a part of my heart!

Special Mentions:

Steampunk

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1)Phoenix Rising (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences #1)

Dystopian

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)Inside Out (Insider, #1)

Review: Tender Mercies by Kitty Thomas

front-sml

“Grace. That word that finally meant something again. Mercy. Favor. Good will.”

Fed up with play kink, Grace Warner moves to an island that embraces erotic slavery to be with a man she met online. Within hours of her arrival, everything is ripped from her, and she quickly learns play is preferable to the realities of actual enslavement.
Asher Collins has spent the past year mourning and blaming himself for the death of his slave, Darcy. When Grace catches his eye at a showing, obviously abused, he becomes obsessed with buying her and finding a way to atone for his own past sins.

DISCLAIMER: This is a work of fiction, and the author does not endorse or condone any behavior done to another human being without their consent. This work contains subject matter which is not appropriate for minors including depictions of abuse, slavery, dubious consent, and anal play.

Tender Mercies

*NO Spoilers

After the mind f*ck that Comfort Food was, I could not wait to check out what else Kitty Thomas had in store and when she requested the review of her newest novel, Tender Mercies, I jumped at the chance to read it.

I am glad to say that Kitty not only doesn’t disappoint with Tender Mercies, but dare I say it, that she delivers a n even better book than the first time around.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Secretary, which is a very unusual love story that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone out there, though the people that I have recommend it to, loved it. Tender Mercies is at its core a love story, not a conventional love story in any stretch of the word, but definitely one nonetheless.

Grace is a has always craved a full-on DOM-sub relationship for years, not only the occasional play in clubs and in the bedroom, but something permanent. So, when she finds out about an island that is a “country” all on its own, where men completely own women as slaves, she decides that that’s the life she wants.

However, the DOM she has chosen is an absolute monster and her life becomes hell in a place where she has no rights at all. When she is sold to Asher after being told that he has killed his last slave, Grace is sure her life is over, but she ends up finding the relationship she always wanted instead. That is until Asher’s past comes knocking and turns her world upside down once again.

One time might be a fluke, but with Tender Mercies Kitty Thomas proves to be an original and talented voice in the literary world. Writing beautiful and unconventional tales of love and acceptance, has brought to forth a new sub genre, Dark Literary Erotica, telling love and sexy stories with a unparalleled finesse.

I cannot wait to see what she will produce next. If you think you enjoy this kind of novel or if you are open for something out of the box, I definitely recommend Tender Mercies. You won’t regret it!
