Hey Everyone!
One of My favorite author discoveries of 2010, Alice Clayton, here today! YAY!
Check out the interview and awesome giveaway bellow!
- When did you first start writing?
Believe it or not, I only started writing a few years ago. And in fact, The Unidentified Redhead is the first thing I have ever written...aside from grocery lists.
- Have you always been interested in Romance?
I have always been a romantic, I will say that much. But more of a practical romantic, no heaving bosoms, no pirate shirt rippling in the night air. Romance to me is when a new married couple tries to figure out which tuna fish recipe should be theirs...his mom's or her mom's??
- Why writing Contemporary Romance?
I just had this idea, and couldn't get it out of my head. Scenes and ideas just kept tumbling out, and then poof...it's a novel!
- Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?
I have always been a tremendous book lover, so I have unknowingly been influenced all my life. I listen to music constantly when I am writing, and in fact certain scenes were suggested by songs I was listening to.
- The sex scenes in your books are amazingly hot. Where do you get your inspiration?
The inspiration came from the mood of the songs I was listening to initially, and then just thinking about everything that was involved. And that first scene, where Jack and Grace are in her bedroom and he throws her across the room, once I started listening to that Prodigy song (insert Firestarter here!) the pace was set and it wrote itself!
- Do you find it hard to write them?
The sex scenes were the ones that I was most nervous to write, but then oddly, were the easiest ones for me to create! Who knew? I think when I sat down to write my first sex scene, I just thought...what would I like to read? And then...well...there it was.
Favorites:
- Favorite Movie? All time? Star Wars. Or Clue.
- Favorite TV Show? Anyone that has read this series can answer this one...Golden Girls!
- Favorite Book? I can't pick just one, but I can tell you that the one I reread consistently, every year, is The Stand by Stephen King.
- Favorite Author? I sooo can't answer that.
- Favorite Romance Author? Here is the kicker...I haven't read enough romance to know! I am working on a 52 Week Book Challenge in 2011, a book a week for a year. I have tons of romance/contemp romance/rom-com on my list, and I can't wait to really submerge myself in this world.
- Favorite Genre that is NOT your own? I know this is so boring, but I literally don't have a favorite genre. Right now on my nightstand is the new Tom Clancy book Dead or Alive, Women Food and God by Geneen Roth, and I just ordered the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. My nightstand is just as confused as I am as to what my favorite genre is!
- Favorite one of your Books? As I only have 2, I would have to say the 2nd in The Redhead Series, The Redhead Revealed, simply because I enjoy Grace more in this book.
- Who is your favorite of your own characters?
Holly. Hands down Holly. She is modeled on several of my best girl friends, as well as my own sister, and she cracks me up. The scenes between her and Grace are always fun to write.
- Which was the hardest to write?
Grace. There are things she does that make you want to smack her in the face, and that was intriguing to me. To take someone that you want to cheer for, and then sit back and watch her self implode, was difficult.
- What would you be if not a writer?
A personal chef. I love to cook.
- If you Could be a Character from any book, Who would you be?
Holly, because I have seen her house and it's spectacular.
Quickies!
- Coffee or Tea? Coffee.
- Up or Down? It has always been my experience that things pointing up are always a good thing.
- Virtual or Real? Real.
- Day or Night? Night.
- Sooner or Later? I would like to say sooner, but I am totally later.
- Reading or Writing? I am, and will always be, a reader first and a writer second.
- What is your favorite part of the writing process? Writing dialogue.
- What is your least favorite part? Deadlines. Remember the Sooner vs Later? Killer...
- The Redhead series in your own words? Comedic Erotica.
- How many book do you have planned for the series? Right now, 4.
- What is coming up next for you?
I am working on Book 3 in The Redhead Series, outlining some new writing projects, and debuting on Feb 1st is my new love, Not Your Mother's Podcast! It's a new podcast with me and 2 of my very best friends about everything that women in their 20's, 30's and beyond want to giggle about. Check out notyourmotherspodcast.com for the details!!
- Do you have any advice or tip to those that want to become a published Author someday?
Don't let anyone tell you what your voice should sound like.
- Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
