top 5 sundays image 2011 simpler

Hey There my dear readers! =) Top 5 Sundays time is here! YAY!

Let’s get right to it, shall we?

This week’s results:

image

Favorite Sci-Fi Movies! = 7 (28%)

Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR! = 13 (52%)

UF Book Recs to Guys! = 5 (20%)

The theme for today is:

Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR!

But first, a little bit about this feature and the rules to join in…

Every Sunday I will post a TOP 5 list on the blog. It can be about anything and every week I'll have a new theme {You can vote on next week’s theme on my left sidebar!} and I will ad the Mr.Linky bellow the post so you can do a list with the theme and add you link to it.

Rules:

  1. Write a post listing your TOP 5 choices within the theme I chose (or was chosen on a poll) for the week.

  2. Mention this Blog on the post and link back to it.

  3. Fell free to use the Feature's image (there is a smaller size version of it bellow)

  4. After you've finished your post, add you link (of the post, not your blog's main page) to the Mr.Linky at the end of that week's post.

  5. If you don’t have a blog to post, just leave your list in the comments =)

This week’s theme is Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR!

I am an avid Paranormal devourer reader, YA, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and anything that might fit in that category, but even a lover like me needs a break once in a while and here are some of the genres I usually turn to =)

*in no particular order

Literary {S&M/Ms} Erotica

Tender Mercies Comfort Foodimage

LOVE Kitty Thomas books and from her rec I ended up reading “As She’s Told” and Loved it as well!

Definitely not a genre for everyone.

Gay Romance

All She Wrote (Holmes & Moriarity, #2)Trust Me If You Dare (Romano and Albright, #2)

I am a huge Josh Lanyon fan and I’ll read anything he puts put, but his more humorous side is awesome and led me to L.B. Gregg, Score!

Contemporary Romance

The Royal Treatment (Alaskan Royal Family, #1)The Unidentified Redhead (The Redhead Series, #1)Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1)

For the longest time I turned my nose to contemporary romance, but I finally gave in and I am so glad I did!

The funny incarnations by MJD, Victoria Dahl and Alice Clayton are amongst the best!

Space Opera

Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1)Alien in the Family (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #3)

Spaceships, Alien and Adventures Oh My!

Fantasy

Eyes Of Crow (Aspect of Crow, #1)Northern Lights (His Dark Materials, #1)The Fellowship of the Ring

Not to dis the Urban kind, but pure Fantasy will always have a part of my heart!

Special Mentions:

Steampunk

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1)Phoenix Rising (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences #1)

Dystopian

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)Inside Out (Insider, #1)

Attention!

Please HELP!

If you have any theme ideas for the next Top 5 Sundays Posts, please leave them in the comments!

Your input would be much appreciated!

Now I can’t wait to see who is in YOUR List of Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR!

Bookish-Haven-Summer-Vacation-Banner[2]

Summer

I’m 36 years old. I miss summer vacation. And no, not the week or two you spend “on vacation” I mean I miss summer vacation. It has been years since I have had a summer vacation, but I can still remember the rush of cleaning out your locker on the last day of school and knowing you didn’t have to think about anything school related until mid-August. And then only because it was time to go back to school
shopping!

Summer vacation was popsicles, corn on the cob, Solarcaine and swimmer’s ear. Summer vacation was mosquitoes and sparklers, tennis on hot hot hot cement, and green-tinged chlorinated hair. Summer vacation was New Kids concerts, Swatch phones, sparkly nail polish and air conditioning.

Did you have summer friends? Friends you kind of kept in touch with during the school year, but then once summer hit it was like you never were apart? They became your life, everything was my-mom-will- take-if-yours-can-pick-up and will-your-Dad-take-us-to-Dairy Queen? They shared their inner tubes, they sprayed Sun-In in your hair, and they always had change to get a frozen Milky Way at the concession
stand.

And summer guys? Oh my goodness, I need a moment. Summer guys… was there anything hotter? Was there anything more exciting than going to the amusement park with your summer friends and seeing guys from -dun dun dun- other schools? Guys that didn’t know you, didn’t know you’re the girl that dropped a tampon out of her purse in front of Shawn Liberto. They didn’t even know Shawn Liberto! You were in the clear and able to proceed with the flirting as though you were a Summer Goddess at 14, and yes you WILL have that funnel cake and yes you WILL let him win you a stupid teddy bear and hell yes you WILL let him kiss you all sloppy and wet and serious on the slow ride that everyone totally knows why you are going on it. You know the one I mean, the one with the little boat that floats along in
a water flume and goes super slow and its cool and dark inside. There’s a black light that makes your bra light up under your shirt and you feign embarrassment but you are really drunk with that secret female power that you can’t even fathom yet, but you are just becoming aware of.

Yeah that’s right, you know that power. The romance that seeps out of every Clearasil-laden pore, the
one that makes you think that every boy is the one you’re gonna marry. The one that makes every REO Speedwagon song sound like it was written just for you, and that makes 95 degrees and 87% humidity feel balmy and perfect. Damn, I miss that.

But now the summer is, well, it’s just plain hot. And I get cranky when I get hot. And I hate mosquitoes. And anyone that follows me on Twitter knows about my Cicada 2011 Rants. St. Louis was surrounded by cicadas this summer, and it was less than pleasant.

And yet, I admit, there are nights in the summer where I make Mr. Alice take me to Dairy Queen, put the top down on the convertible and just drive. Out on the highway, the mid-summer heat is almost bearable. It’s humid, and the Peanut Buster Parfait is sticky, but the REO Speedwagon is damn near  perfect.

And he still kisses me all sloppy and warm and somewhat serious…

Alice

Author Interview & Signed Books/eBooks Giveaway w/ Alice Clayton

    Alice clayton title

    Hey Everyone!

One of My favorite author discoveries of 2010, Alice Clayton, here today! YAY!

Check out the interview and awesome giveaway bellow!

    fans-flames-and-swirls (1)

    - When did you first start writing?

Believe it or not, I only started writing a few years ago. And in fact, The Unidentified Redhead is the first thing I have ever written...aside from grocery lists.7743783

    - Have you always been interested in Romance?

I have always been a romantic, I will say that much. But more of a practical romantic, no heaving bosoms, no pirate shirt rippling in the night air. Romance to me is when a new married couple tries to figure out which tuna fish recipe should be theirs...his mom's or her mom's??

    - Why writing Contemporary Romance?

I just had this idea, and couldn't get it out of my head. Scenes and ideas just kept tumbling out, and then poof...it's a novel!

    - Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?

I have always been a tremendous book lover, so I have unknowingly been influenced all my life. I listen to music constantly when I am writing, and in fact certain scenes were suggested by songs I was listening to.beatrice_arthur2

    - The sex scenes in your books are amazingly hot. Where do you get your inspiration?

The inspiration came from the mood of the songs I was listening to initially, and then just thinking about everything that was involved. And that first scene, where Jack and Grace are in her bedroom and he throws her across the room, once I started listening to that Prodigy song (insert Firestarter here!) the pace was set and it wrote itself!

    - Do you find it hard to write them?

The sex scenes were the ones that I was most nervous to write, but then oddly, were the easiest ones for me to create! Who knew? I think when I sat down to write my first sex scene, I just thought...what would I like to read? And then...well...there it was.

    clue-dvdFavorites:

    - Favorite Movie? All time? Star Wars. Or Clue.

    - Favorite TV Show? Anyone that has read this series can answer this one...Golden Girls!

    - Favorite Book? I can't pick just one, but I can tell you that the one I reread consistently, every year, is The Stand by Stephen King.

    - Favorite Author? I sooo can't answer that.

    - Favorite Romance Author? Here is the kicker...I haven't read enough romance to know! I am working on a 52 Week Book Challenge in 2011, a book a week for a year. I have tons of romance/contemp romance/rom-com on my list, and I can't wait to really submerge myself in this world.

    - Favorite Genre that is NOT your own? I know this is so boring, but I literally don't have a favorite genre. Right now on my nightstand is the new Tom Clancy book Dead or Alive, Women Food and God by Geneen Roth, and I just ordered the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. My nightstand is just as confused as I am as to what my favorite genre is!

star-wars-poster1 - Favorite one of your Books?  As I only have 2, I would have to say the 2nd in The Redhead Series, The Redhead Revealed, simply because I enjoy Grace more in this book.

    - Who is your favorite of your own characters?

Holly. Hands down Holly. She is modeled on several of my best girl friends, as well as my own sister, and she cracks me up. The scenes between her and Grace are always fun to write.

    - Which was the hardest to write?

Grace. There are things she does that make you want to smack her in the face, and that was intriguing to me. To take someone that you want to cheer for, and then sit back and watch her self implode, was difficult.

    - What would you be if not a writer?

    A personal chef. I love to cook.cdn.extracine.com.files.2011.02.the-stand

    - If you Could be a Character from any book, Who would you be?

Holly, because I have seen her house and it's spectacular.

    Quickies!

    - Coffee or Tea? Coffee.
    - Up or Down? It has always been my experience that things pointing up are always a good thing.
    - Virtual or Real? Real.
    - Day or Night?  Night.
    - Sooner or Later? I would like to say sooner, but I am totally later.
    - Reading or Writing? I am, and will always be, a reader first and a writer second.

    - What is your favorite part of the writing process? Writing dialogue.

    - What is your least favorite part? Deadlines. Remember the Sooner vs Later? Killer...

The Redhead Revealed by Alice Clayton - The Redhead series in your own words?  Comedic Erotica.

    - How many book do you have planned for the series? Right now, 4.

    - What is coming up next for you?

I am working on Book 3 in The Redhead Series, outlining some new writing projects, and debuting on Feb 1st is my new love, Not Your Mother's Podcast! It's a new podcast with me and 2 of my very best friends about everything that women in their 20's, 30's and beyond want to giggle about. Check out notyourmotherspodcast.com for the details!!

    - Do you have any advice or tip to those that want to become a published Author someday?

Don't let anyone tell you what your voice should sound like.

    - Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?

*taps mike* Is this thing on? Hello to you! My one fan:)
