Why Werewolves?

I’m asked this question a lot. And I usually answer with a long drawn out view of why, but this time I’m going to simply say, “Why not?”

Wolves are loyal and protective and family-oriented. They’re playful, they work together as a team, and sure there’s a pecking order, but where is there not? They love their mate forever and ever and ever.

They take care of the pack’s new litters as if the pups were their own. They teach them how to work and play and survive.

So what’s not to love?

But we’re talking about WERE-wolves. And that’s a similar story. Really. They still are wolves at heart, with the enhanced senses, but the moral obligation to mate for life, the loyalty, protectiveness, and love of their children and mate and pack members.

They’re also sexy, primal humans who love to play, work hard, and are more one with nature than most of their strictly human counterparts.

So what happens when a werewolf falls head over heels for a strictly human type? Nothing. He can’t. It’s not permitted. But you know what? Love has to find a way!

Isn’t that always the way? It can’t be easy for them or it’s just not fun. Think of it this way—wolfman falls in love with human woman. She falls in love with him. Hand-in-hand they walk into the sunset, happily ever after.

See? It won’t work. So we have to have problems. And Alicia Greiston’s got them. Big time.

Jake Silver is only trying to drop off his wildlife photography at the gallery across the street from a quaint, high-priced restaurant when he sees HER. There’s an instant attraction, but also she’s taking a photo of a license plate, and since he loves to photograph nature, he’s instantly curious.

Did I mention wolves are innately curious creatures?

But when she gets over her head in a confrontation with a Mob guy, Jake’s at her side, ready to take him on. And that’s only the beginning. He absolutely knows he shouldn’t take this infatuation any further.

But what if love at first sight truly exists? Even between a werewolf and a human? What if sometimes there’s just something about another human being…or werewolf being, that just seems to have that magical connection?

Then, if the two can get past all the obstacles—the rule of not changing a human into a werewolf at whim, and the rule of not getting stuck on another guy when Alicia’s already had two failed marriages—
well, just maybe they will end up walking into the sunset, hand-in-hand, happily ever after.

Or not. You can never tell how these things will go.

What do you think? Can a hot werewolf like Jake win over a human who is wary of relationships? Can he let go of his moral obligation to stay away from her when she’s strictly human and he is not? Can she
trust him to not get himself killed if the Mob decides he’s a loose cannon they need to get rid of?

Of course there’s a lot more twists and turns to the story, but I can’t say about all that.

I sure hope they can find a way to work it all out because they both deserve to find happiness. As do we all!

Hope your New Year is filled with joy!

Dreaming of the Wolf (Heart of the Wolf)

A FIERCE HUNTER...

Alicia Greiston is a no-nonsense bounty hunter determined to bring a ring of mobsters to justice. Her dogged pursuit of the crime family has forced her to avoid relationships— any man would only become a target for retribution. Luckily, Jake Silver is more than a man, and his instincts
are telling him to stop at nothing to protect her.

AN ANIMAL PASSION...

However, the mob isn't entirely human either, and soon Alicia must flee for her life. When Alicia
and Jake's passion begins to spill over into their dreams, Jake learns he will have to do more than
defend her— he'll have to show his mate the way of the wolf.

ARC Review: Dreaming of The Wolf {Heart of The Wolf #8} by Terry Spear

Terry Spear's debut Heart of the Wolf was a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. Known for her research into how wolves live in nature, Spear writes her werewolves as they would behave realistically, including pack dynamics, mating behavior, and hierarchies.

Werewolf pack leader Jake Silver is an acclaimed photographer. He sees a beautiful woman at the art gallery where his photos are on display, and his intrigue turns into wolfish protectiveness. Alicia Greiston has never met anyone like Jake-he's sexy, alpha, and totally irresistible, and he calls to something primal in her soul.

Dreaming of the Wolf (Heart of the Wolf)

*NO Spoilers.

So Awesome! This is exactly what i love the most about long term Paranormal Romance series, getting to revisit groups of characters that I love and get to see previously met ones get their Happily Ever After.

I literary could not put Dreaming of the Wolf down for a second and ended up going through it all night long and getting no sleep at all, it was absolutely worth it though. To see Lelandi's family again and witnessing Jake getting to find his dream woman.

Jake is such a great Alpha male and don't get him wrong, he might not be leader of pack, but he is definitely an Alpha male through and through and Alicia is more than enough to drive him crazy with her antics and wild with passion. I loved their interaction and romance. Specially since she starts off as human and you can't help but wonder how the hell are they ever going to be together.

Dreaming of The Wolf is a fantastic installment in Terry's awesome werewolf series and probably the most action-packed pone to date and I LOVED every minute of it.

It had it all, from hot and steamy smex to suspense and tender moments galore. Exactly what a Paranormal Romance lover could have ever hoped for in her wildest dreams.

I recommend the Heart od The Wolf series to all PNR lovers out there, you won't be disappointed, specially if you have a weakness for Alpha males and strong female characters.

Terry Spear

THE END, but Only the Beginning!

Woohoo, I finished writing Dreaming of the Wolf!!! After hundreds of rewrites, thousands of edits, tons and tons of rereads, I finished it. It’s Jake’s story, which is Book 8 in the series.

It seems so weird when we’re writing a series, to be promoting Book 5, while writing Book 8, when the book we’re currently working on is the one we’re so engrossed in. I’ve also been mentioning a lot about Wolf Fever, Book 6, because it’s coming in December, but poor Book 7, Heart of the Highland Wolf is getting lost in the shuffle. Not for long though. I’m getting ready to write Book 9 & 10, and one deals
with the Highland wolves again.

How do I keep them straight? It’s hard!!! Sometimes I get my names mixed up. I definitely have to reread the books to make sure if the characters were in an early book and have their own story next, I keep them fairly true to their nature. How can it change? We all act differently when we’re
around different people. With family, one way. With co-workers, another. With people we don’t know at all, another even. So it’s the same with characters in a book. They’re one way with family and friends and the general populace. But put a hunky wolf in their path, and whoa, everything changes!

Actually, by the time this is up, I’ll be working on a brand new story, #9 in the series. And the agonizing begins all over again. How do I begin the story? How do the two meet? I have all kinds of ideas for both stories.

I’ve already set down the parameters—occupations, goals, motivations, generally how they meet in the pitch to sell them. And then, who knows where it will all go!

With Seduced by the Wolf, the latest release, it all started with a true story about a wolf biologist who discovered a she-wolf with pups, that had lost her mate. It had such a lovely happy ending, romantic too, that I just had to use it—werewolf style—in my story.

In Highland Wolf in Paradise, I just had to do something about the man who had stolen the clan’s money in Heart of the Highland Wolf. And in The Wolf and the SEAL, Meara still is looking for an alpha mate, and while her brother is on his honeymoon with Tessa, she’s off to play. The idea I had about the SEAL, actually came from my editor, who had commented on Hunter being a SEAL in To Tempt the Wolf, and how it would be neat if his whole team were werewolves. I LOVED the idea, and finally came up with a way to incorporate the rest of the SEAL team into a tale with Meara.

One of my co-workers was the one who gave me the kernel of an idea for Heart of the Highland Wolf also. She said I never had a poor wolf. About that time, Madoff had made off with so many investors’ funds, I used the idea to create a clan (I’ve been dying to write a Highland wolf tale) who’d lost their
investments to a financial investment swindler, and voila, we have a poor wolf. Well, a whole bunch of poor wolves, in fact.

Having a fun reason for writing a story, helps in promoting it too. Why in the world did you write this the way you did? Well, let me tell you. See, there was this headline story that caught my eye, and the next thing I knew, werewolf packs were involved. Simple as fantasy!

Wolf Fever came out at a time when we were told a mass epidemic of flu was going to hit the world. I changed the scenario to one pack.

So I’m off to write a new werewolf saga, and hope that you’ll check out the one that’s just come out. But my question to you is: have you heard something in the news that would make you think how fun it would be to use it in a werewolf story? Hey, if it’s really good, can I use it???

Thanks again to Larissa for having me.

And to readers, thanks so much for dropping by and commenting!!

Lala's Book Corner Presents: Author Interview & Giveaway w/ Terry Spear

Hey Everyone! Before we get to the Interview, I just wanted to apologize for the delay in announcing the results for the giveaway with Michele Bardsley. I will be announcing that winner and the winner to last week's contest with Lexi Ryan on my Round Up post on Monday!

Today I'd like to welcome Terry Spear to Larissa's Life! Terry write the great Heart of The Wolf Series. You can check out my review of the series HERE.

Giveaway info at the bottom!

Here's the interview, enjoy! =)

- When did you first start writing?
I always wrote--between making up stories for myself, or creating oral stories to share with my friends when I was young. Then many years ago, I started writing children's stories. One went as far as a senior editor, who reluctantly turned the story down, saying it was too similar to something they had just published. So, I began writing romances, then young adults. Sold two young adults, the line was dropped, and the books were never published. And then I sold some adult urban fantasy romances, and two young adult paranormal books as well.

- Have you always been interested in Romance?
My very first brush with romance was when I was thirteen, and my girlfriend shared two books with me that her sister sneaked home to her (she was ten years older and was a librarian.) It was pretty wild--at least for me. I didn't pick up romances after that until I started writing them and fell in love. Now, everything has to have a romantic bent. I love happily ever afters!

- What about in the Paranormal?
My first book was a western romance, but I didn't sell it, and I still have it, in case I ever want to revise it. But when I wrote my first vampire romance, my critique partners agreed that the paranormal was my forte. There is nothing hunkier than a paranormal character!

- Why writing Paranormal Romance?
I loved Dracula when I was a teen and saw him in a play at Brevard Community College in Florida. I wanted to be the actress he so sensually put under his spell. Only I hated to see him die. :)

- Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?
Dracula in the play did. But also Jack London's Call of the Wild and White Fang gave me a love of wolves, and gave me the desire to allow all animals to have a chance in this world. Not just humans. So, my werewolves are based on real wolves, not some beastly werewolf shapeshifter.

- What is your favorite subject in the Paranormal Romance Realm?
Werewolves and vampires. Werewolves have a sexy ruggedness. Vampires are more suave. I love both.

- I Love the sex scenes in your books, they are so hot and wild. Where do you get your inspiration?
Thanks, Larissa!! I love to see the characters as real as they're going through the paces. It's an emotional involvement, not just a physical one. When I'm developing the characters, I see them as individuals, based on everything they've done in the story so far. That helps to make them different from characters in other books in a series. Their fantasies are different from others, as they fantasize about the hero or heroine in the story, until that big bang, when they finally give in to their more primal desires.

- Do you find it hard to write them?
Only when my "kids" were watching television in the next room. :) I like it very quiet when I write them, get totally focused and write. With other scenes, action and dialogue, it's easy, and I can have noise or music in the background. For everyone, it's different.

Favorite:

- Favorite Paranormal themed Movie?
I love a lot, but Stardust was one of my favorites.

- Favorite Paranormal themed TV Show?
I rarely watch tv because I have so many deadlines, so nothing comes to mind except years ago I loved Bewitched and I Dream of Genie.

- Favorite Paranormal themed Book?
Celtic Fire, Immortal Highlander

- Favorite Author?
Moning

- Favorite Paranormal Romance Author?
Moning

- Favorite one of your Books?
:) I love them all, especially the one I'm just writing because I'm learning all about the characters as I write, the conflicts they have to go through, falling in love...

- Who is your favorite of your own characters?
I always love my heroes. If I can't, how can anyone else? I had fun with Leidolf though, because he's in the first four stories and then has his own in Book 5, Seduced by the Wolf, coming August 1.

- Which was the hardest to write?
The hardest to write was Legend of the White Wolf because my mother was dying of breast cancer. We were best friends and I had to do major rewrites while taking her to the hospital for tests, surgery, and finally to die. So it was a really horrible time for me, and yet she wanted me to read the story to her as I progressed until the end. I love that story, but it truly was the hardest to write because of the heartache I was going through for my mother. My editor and everyone at Sourcebooks were so wonderful too. I couldn't have asked for a better publishing house while I was going through all of that pain.

- What would you be if not a writer?
I wouldn't be anything else. I'm a retired lieutenant colonel from the USAR, and I work at a library. But writing is what I love to do more than anything else in the world.

Quickies:

- Coffee or Tea?
Green tea. I envision it cleaning out my arteries, and I swear it helps me to lose weight.

- Up or Down?
Up, always. No matter the situation, I'm climbing up.

- Virtual or Real?
A little of both. I love reading and I love playing Role Playing Games, like Dragon Age that my son gave me for Christmas. But I love being in the real world also and participating in life.

- Right or Left?
Right. I'm right-handed, so it just seems to me, making the right decisions, doing the right things, writing right is the way to go. :)

- Vampires or Werewolves?
Really a bad question. Now how can I choose when I love both so much? If you haven't read Daemon in Deadly Liaisons, you will know what I mean. He is to die for, but the great part is to be a vampire, you do not have to die. In fact, you can't. But I adore my werewolf guys too. So really can't choose between the two.

- Angels or Demons?
I'm not really fond of either. Is that bad, or what? I mean, I loved the angel in It's a Wonderful Life...but as far as reading about them...

- Reading or Writing?
I LOVE both. I have to have my reading fix. Have to have. I feel on edge if I go too long without being able to read a good book. And writing? The same way. I have to write. If I'm in between stories, I feel in limbo and have to get into a story, even if it's one that I've written before and just want to revise it someday.

- What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Writing the first meeting between the characters. Then the first kiss. :)

- What is your least favorite part?
Ending the book, because although I love having the happily ever after, it means I have to give up my characters and start a new book, learning the characters all over again. Still, I miss the ones I just breathed life into. :)

- The Heart of The Wolf series in your own words?
The Heart of the Wolf series is about a sexy bunch of werewolves who believe in family, commitment, loyalty, having fun, hunting and working together who are wolves when wolves, and wolfishly sexy humans when in their human form. The stories are full of mystery, adventure, suspense, humor and romance, with a werewolf kind of flair!

- Any plans for more Heart of the Wolf Books?
Lots! Heart of the Wolf, Destiny of the Wolf, To Tempt the Wolf, and Legend of the White Wolf (Feb 1), are released or soon to be released. Seduced by the Wolf is coming August 1, and Wolf Fever in the fall. Taming the Highland Wolf and Dreaming of the Wolf are coming in 2011.

-  What is coming up next for you?
Legend of the White Wolf, was just released on Feb 1, and The Accidental Highland Hero, April.

- What are you working on right now?
Right now, I've just written the 1st chapter and part of the 2nd on Taming the Highland Wolf. I'm excited about it!

- Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published Author someday?
Keep writing, keep revising, keep submitting, and start all over again.

- Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
Legend of the White Wolf was out this February if you're looking for a wintry story set in Maine where the hunk of a hero, Cameron MacPherson, warms up the heart of the heroine, Faith O'Malley, while trying to solve a mystery and attempting to stay alive...then take the plunge into a snowy-filled world of Arctic wolves--werewolves that is, and a new breed of threat.

- Thank You for stopping by Terry!
Thanks so much for having me, Larissa!

I hope you enjoyed the interview =)
