Guest Post by Author Stella Price + Giveaway!

Hey everyone! Today is Christmas Eve and I want to wish a Merry Christmas! to everyone that celebrates it and that your Holidays are full of Joy and Happiness!

One of the great things about twitter, IMO, is getting to know and meeting my favorite and new authors. Because of this amazing tool, I have had the chance to talk to a of of my favorites and the pleasure to meet new ones. Stella Price is one of the latter and I am honored that she agreed to stop by and share a bit about how writing with a partner. Not only that, but she is also giving away some ebooks. You'll find out how to enter at the end =)

Stella, the Floor (Post) is yours:

I get a lot of questions about one specific thing: Writing with a partner, Since Larissa was awesome enough to have me over here to talk about anything my black little heart desired, I figured I would post to you guys about the agony and the ecstasy that is writing with a partner.

See I have a special kind of hell when writing with a partner, since my partner is my sister. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, and we work so well together. We finish each other’s sentences, and we are always on the same page with characters and plot ideas. It’s much like having an extension of each other to feed off of. That’s the part that makes this a workable situation.

The part that makes the partnership hell on earth is the fact that she lives in Scotland, and I live in NY. 3k miles across an ocean, and I’m running a career for both people in this partnership al on my own. Because of the time difference, Audra is 5 hour ahead, and to get the two of us on at the same time to get writing done is about as much as we can muster these days.

See Audra got married last year, and is 7 months pregnant right now. She’s doing a lot of renovations on the flat, and trying to get ready for the baby, which we know is a boy. So, because of this, writing gets to the point of few and far between.

Before the little ninja was conceived, we would spend 5-8 hours a day online writing. Audra and I, between us, can write a 92k book in 20 days when we are on a roll, but because she doesn’t have a lot of time to do anything these days (and is always tired) we do spotty work over email. We used to do everything over IM together, but because of everything going on for her over the pond, She’s not available like she used to be.

Don’t get me wrong, once the little one is born, I’m thinking we are going to have a bit more time to write, as they do sleep a good portion of the time and her MiL is trying to be Rumplestilkskin and take the baby at every turn. Fine by me… I mean we have work to write LOL.

Stella & Audra Price

But on the real side of it, I wouldn’t be anywhere without her. She’s the ying to my yang you know? We connect on a level sisters shouldn’t, but it works for us. The only thing I wish I didn’t have to always do alone is the conventions and appearances. On the off chance she can make it to the states (she does show for she Authors After Dark convention) its always a wild time, though this past time she was here, she was preggers, and didn’t get wild… next year, all bets are off, provided my Brother in law doesn’t knock her up again LOL.

So when you read one of our stories, remember that its two people, in two different countries with the same brain. Its not the easiest of partnerships, but it does work for us. I’m just hoping it will for years to come. I love spending time with my sister, and this really is the only way I can do it.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us Stella and please know that you are always welcome to stop by =)

What a great interview Larissa *blows kisses*

  6. Danielle says:

Great blog - and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I think I'd prefer to write by myself. It'd be great to share the highs and lows with a partner, but I'm greedy and would want any accolades for myself, lol.

  7. @smokin

    Thanks hun =)))

    @Danielle

    Loved your answer LOL =)))

  8. Stella! Hey there hottie, love the post. Great job Larissa and Stella ;)

If i was to write a book i would have to have a partner to work with as i am useless at putting what i mean into words, so they would have to be able to do that for me.

This was a great blog! I love hearing about real-life and how it effects a writer (or in this case a pair of writers). I am a new writer and at times feel overwhelmed;hearing that it's okay to have life happen is comforting.

Also, I would probably not be able to write with a partner, as we would not have the same words to use. We could end up just arguing over that, but it would be an adventure! I might try it someday, because it would be wonderful to share a book with someone!

I am following your blog now (I'm glad I found it), following you on twitter, and linked your giveaway on my blog.

    @CharlieQuillen

    Happy Holidays everyone!

  12. I woke up to such a great surprise!

Thanks to everyone thats posted so far. Truth is that you need to be on another level with the person you write with, or it doesnt work.

If your interested in writing with a partner, try doing some RPG's. Theres a TON where you write your character and the other person writes theres, and you work together to make story style posts. Its fun. We used to have a RPG forum but have changed it into a fan forum, the RPG just wasnt able to keep up with us and our ideas of new races. Maybe one day.

But thats for making my day that much brighter guys! I'll let Audra know its up. If her smarmy ass gets online, she can come and comment.

  14. Twimom227 says:

Thanks for the interesting post! I hope that things "pick up" once the babe is born! I can't imagine trying to write with someone that lives so far away - I guess that's why computers and phones are so handy!

If I were a writer, I think I would prefer to write alone. However, I can see the benefits of working details out with another person - bouncing ideas off each other. Amazing!

    Thanks!

The Post Was Awesome. I Loved How Unique It Was. I Would love To Be Considered For This Giveaway.

If You Were To Write A Novel, Would You Rather Write It Alone Or With A Partner? Why?
If I Was To Write A Novel I Think I Would Rather Write It Alone. I Am Very Particular About How I Write Things That I Think Writing With A Partner Would Be To Hard For Me To Share Control Over What Would Be Written.

  18. I would definitely write on my own (actually, I have). It's mostly because I type as I think and it becomes very tough for me to work with someone else if they can't hear my thoughts. :D

I didn't link on the sidebar bc if I did that for each giveaway I post, my website would be 500 pages long! :)

  20. I would love to write a children's book, I have been thinking about for years but I just have no idea where to start, I think I would like to write it by myself as I would like to feel I did something all myself.

I think I don't know which I would prefer, I like to write by myself but at the same time, I might get more done with a partner.

Must be great to write and spend so much time with your sister though.

  25. I am fascinated by 2 writers working as 1 although I think for me it would be rather difficult. Unlike you, Stella, I don't have a sister or BFF that thinks along the same lines. You both are very lucky.

    Great post. Thanks

Larissa, I follow you on Twitter.

  26. JoJo says:

Awesome Posts! Wow i think that is completly Awesome you and your sister get along that well!! i luv my sis, but i don't think we could ever do something like that. we have such different taste on things. a book we wrote together probably wouldn't make sense!!! LOL

If you were to write a novel, would you rather write it alone or with a partner? i think i would do both. and i think it would really depend on the story i am writing. if it is one ive brain stormed on my own, i am really pickie sometimes and i think it would be hard to have someone want to change this or that. Now if it was a story me and someone brainstormed together, i think it would be a blast to do! getting 2 peoples brains coming up with all kinds of things. you really could make an interesting story!!!

    Great Post Lady's thanks!!!
