I LOVED this book! Despite all my Fey misgivings, this book totally captivated me and kept me glued to my laptop until the last page. I think that it was easier for me to get lost in the Meghan’s world because I knew her already and I also knew the “rules” of her world, so it was easier to just give myself away to the suspension of disbelief.
The Iron Daughter (TIG) starts a bit after the end of The Iron King and we get to know what exactly happened between books through Meghan’s retelling.
I really don’t wanna have any spoilers, but all our favorite characters are back, Puck, Grim, Ash, Ironhorse and we get to meet so many more. I loved how high the stakes got in this book. We find out how bad it is that Ash and Meghan have feelings for each other, we get to see that Meghan has a choice to make, actually there are a lot of choices to be made and most of them are really hard and irreversible.
I cried my heart out in this book. My heart was broken and mended a few times and I simply loved it. For me a book is very successful when it manages to gauge so many strong emotions from me. It means that I have committed myself to the happiness of the characters and it makes everything more interesting.
The only thing that bothered me in this book and in the previous one too, as a matter of fact, is the intensity of Meghan’s love toward Ash, and it is all based on much less than it would be believable. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ash and I really enjoy him and out leading lady together, but for a while her obsession with him, even when he hurt her so much, was too much. Towards the end, not so much, but for a while it really bothered me.
Regardless, both The Iron King and The Iron Daughter are wonderful additions to the YA world and I can only imagine what Julie has up her sleeve for the next book, The iron Queen, I have my guesses and I just love that even though the title os each novel seems to be obvious, they so aren’t. There is a lot of subtlety of themes in this series, right along with the most obvious ones, like the Romeo&Juliet style love between Meghan and Ash.
I am amazed how incredible YA fiction is nowadays. I wish there were books like these when I was younger, but I’m glad I get to read them now as well. Julie Kagawa is definitelly here to stay and The Iron Daughter just proves that this new author has much more and better in store for us. If you haven’t read this series yet, you really should!
