I am a fan of the House of Night series, even though i don’t find it to be a spectacular series, specially compared to so many amazing YA series out there, I have always enjoyed reading the adventures of Zoey and her friends.
For that reason, it pains me to admit I did not enjoy Burned. I actually enjoyed the changes in POVs that featured on Tempted [House of Night, #6] and I was really looking forward to Burned and I can’t help feeling disappointed with the way it came out.
I feel like nothing really happened in Burned, that the story hasn’t really moved forward and we are just going around in circles. The characters don’t seem to be evolving and the book was sort of repetitive and it got tiring at times.
Another thing that also bothered me was the amount of cursing going on. Don’t get me wrong, i curse a lot, but everyone seemed to be cursing in this book and it felt like too much most of the time, it got me squirming in my seat.
Burned starts right where Tempted ended and the books takes place in less than a week’s time in the characters life. There wasn’t enough story to hold a full novel in my opinion.
There were a couple things I enjoyed, though. I like the storyline with Stevie Rae and I love seeing Stark around. Other than that, I found that I had to force myself to keep reading =/
I haven’t lost faith in the series though and I am going to read the next installment, Awakened.

I've been very hesitant about actually picking up this book. I mean, I've been a fan and I've loyally bought all of the books at the time of their release up until now ... but the story's time line is so slow! I don't even think we're out of her first year of school, are we? I'm also a little bitter about how Erik was turned into the bad guy because he got a little possessive over Zoey. I know some people don't agree, but can't we just agree that Eric wasn't entirely in the wrong ... seeing as how he isn't the one that cheated in the relationship and she didn't exactly only have eyes for Erik when they were dating. I also feel bad for most of the guys that crosses Zoey's path for that very same reason. ;) Not that I'm bitter. Okay, I am. But, I STILL read the books past all of that and I'm coming away feeling a little unsatisfied with the pace and story.
Good review, though. It makes me feel a little less guilty about moving this down my TBR list a bit. ;)

OMG i totally agree with you!! I didnt get the whole Erik thing either... she was the one to cheat on him and keep wanting to have more than one guy...
and I also agree about the pace.... its soooooooo slow! its killing me!

I gave up on this series at book 5. They just seem to be written horribly. I hated the OMG and WTF strewn throughout the pages. As the mom of a teen, I know they don't all talk that way!
I liked this book manly for Aphrodite and Stark. they saved it in my eyes. And where i used to love Stevie Rae she became irritating to me in Burned, she seemed to have taken over Zoey's must have more than one love interest role and it irked me. Kinda wished we'd had more Neferet too since she's the big bad, or even had a chapter of her POV.

i completely agree with everything that has been said. The books are so slow. Every book has been like this. I feel like this series is going nowhere.
Her need to have more than one guy is really irritating. Love triangles can be good plot devices, but not when they are handled badly like in this series.
I agree with the Eric thing. He was right to be possessive and overbearing because that girl was trying to get with two other guys at the time. And she was the one that cheated on him several times. I think she is the bad guy in all the relationships and causes all the problems.
I didn't like the changes of POV in the last book. It felt weird to me after the books had been narrated by Zoey. There seems to be no plan for this series, no outline. Every book just seems to be written as they are going and I don't like that.
I was a really big fan, but I am pretty much done with this series. I might try to read Burned, but I can see myself putting it down.
