  1. How about I start this thing?

a couple of things that bothered me were Katniss coldness and a lack of more Katniss and Peeta at the end...

However, I loved Suzanne's consistency and I feel that the ending was perfect and fit with the person Katniss is.

she needed Peeta, he is the hope she has never felt in her life and love the subtlety of their love in the end... they just came and grew together, naturally and it felt right and perfect...

A friend argued that the choice was taken out of Katniss about her life... but I believe she made the 2 most important choices in the book..

Killing Coin and Deciding to survive in the end because of Peeta... those were life changing decisions. The first for all the people of Panem, and I loved tha Pyros (thats her name?) is the new president, she is a fighter and is the perfect choice.

The second choice is more personal but perfect. Katniss has never really had hope and her heart broke when Peeta tried to kill her, but in the end she believed in him and he coming back to D12 gave her a reason to want to live...

    What about you guys????

    Any Thoughts??

  2. Najela says:

The ending was so bizarre to me. I'm still debating whether I liked it. It was a fitting end, but she didn't really seem happy, but then again, I'm not sure that she'd ever be truly "happy". I got the impression that she loves/loved Gale, but needs Peeta.

Prim. I felt so lost about all that. I didn't know what to think about that. It does kind of negate the whole series, but in the end, the world is in peace... and I suppose that's what matters in the overall scheme of things.

I guess this ending is a little more satisfying than having a nice clean implausible ending.

  3. Ava says:

I just finished it and I'm literally still in shock! Haha, I needed to discuss this a bit one somebody!

The ending was bizarre, but I liked what Najela said that she loved Gale but needed Peeta, because that fits with the discussion Gale and Peeta had about who she needs.

I was a little bit disappointed by the lack of much romance at all in this book, and once I was nearing the end I thought for sure Katniss would end up alone. I wasn't Team Peeta, but I was really glad when she did end up with him! She did need him. They were both extremely messed up from everything the Capitol had done to them, but it worked out.

I think my favorite part of the book was when she killed Coin, because ever since her conversation with Snow, I wanted her to kill Coin instead of Snow. I didn't acutally think it would happen, but it totally made sense! Katniss is a little bit insane by the end, but she still fights for justice. Coin pretty much killed Prim, which was really, really sad. I couldn't believe it when she suggested holding another Hunger Games. The way I was glad about killing Coin made me realize how I had seriously started to think like Katniss throughout reading this. Weird! It was just so well written.

Well, I think I've said enough. I just have a lot of thoughts!

  4. Thanks for sharing guys!

I agree with both of you! She needed Peeta and I was so happy they ended up together =)

you said it right Ava, they are both messed up, but I love that in the end they find some peace together...

I am worried about Gale... he wasnt in a good path and could easily become a snow in the future =/

I did LOVE that she killed Coin! it was absolutely perfect! and Snow laughing was actually funny =P

am I a bit disturber for thinking that? LOL

  5. It really bothered me that she agreed to a new Hunger Games. That felt out of character to me. However, I think the author needed Katniss to agree to show us that Katniss could never end up with Gale, that they were too similar carrying around the anger and hate. I think that helped people who were still team Gale understand that in the end she really needed Peeta.
I am a romance lover and I wished we got to see a little more of them "growing back together" at the end. But overall, I was really happy with the book.

  6. Becky says:

I loved this book so much.

It was great having to see the relationship between Peeta and Katniss reform after his hijacking.

She was a different person in this book but she also had been through two fights to the death and is now in the middle of an actual war, I think that would make anybody a loner.

It was very surprising when Buttercup showed up and was the one that finally made her break down/cry over the loss of her sister. Katniss and that cat are really very similar.

I was really sad that Cinna was dead especially when we find out that Effie was still alive, I kept expecting him to turn up somewhere.

Gale never had a chance there was just too much distrust between them and then when it was his invention/bomb plan being used to kill her sister and all those other children.

I think the only reason Katniss said yes to another hunger games was that that's all she knows now and to see if the new president would actually go through with it. Also to still see if Haymitch was on her side.

I love how Snow is the one he connects everything together for her about 13 and their intentions and part in everything. How they started the war and reminding her that the Capitol had no hovercraft left. So to use historical events 13 pretty much committed a small scale Hiroshima type attack.

It was surprising when she shot Coin but after reading it and her visit with Snow I'm pretty sure that's what she planned to do all along.

It was great/fitting for Snow that he died by choking while laughing.

Another of my favorite parts is the Real or not Real game that they have to play with Peeta and that it becomes a recurring part of their relationship.

The fact that they live in the victors village together and that many people came back to live there shows that 12 might just be the best place for Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch.

  7. @Joy

YES! I agree with you in both accounts... I was like, WTF she saud YES?? and yeah, she and Gale were NOT meant to be =/

and I also wanted to see more of the growing back together =/

    @Becky

    Great points!

I dont think she planned on killing Coin all along, but the thought was building until she looked into Snow's eyes...

Ih MY! I kepr expecting Cinna too!! heartbreaking! and she and buttercup are so similar LOL

I loved the Real or Not Real game too!!

"You love me, real or not real?" aawwwwww sooo cute!

I think Katniss loved Gale but as a brother not as a man and Peeta she loved as a man, the man that could bring hope and love into her life... a lightness she has never really known...

  8. Christine says:

I was really speechless after finishing Mockingjay.
I always wanted Katniss to end up with Peeta, because they went through so much together and Peeta really loves her. I was slightly shocked about the change Gale went through. Even though it was never really answered, but I guess it was Beetee and Gale´s idea with the parachutes at the very end.
Speaking of the end, even though it was not the end I would have wished for, it was good.
IF you think about it,if anyone would have to go through what Katniss had to, no one could come out of that undamaged. It was just a matter of time until Katniss breakes, in my opinion.
I was really glad that Coin was killed. I couldn´t stand her throughout the whole book.
What I can´t believe however is that Prim was really killed.
On the German amazon page, Mockingjay is recomended for readers starting from the age of 12. Personally, I think that 12 is still too youg to read it, don´t you think?
