“There are only eight breeding female werecats left . . .
And I'm one of them.I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.
Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.
I'd been warned about Strays -- werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.
This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back . . . for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I'm no meek kitty. I'll take on whatever -- and whoever -- I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays -- 'cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them . . .”

I have to admit that I feel in love with this series from page one and it has been a solid relationship between me and Faythe’s world ever since.
Fayther is a werecat and when we meet her in Stray, she has left her fiancé and her life in her Pride behind in pursuit of living a normal life as a college student and not have to deal with the pressure of being one of the few Tabbys {female werecat} in the United States and having to get married and have babies.
See, the thing is, in Faythe’s world a Pride is passed on from mother to daughter, but the Alpha is the man with whom the daughter marries. Because of the power that the job entails, there is a lot of political maneuvering and it is very rare for a Tabby to get married for love.
Faythe’s parents are one of the few exceptions and Faythe herself will not accept anything else. She does love Marc, the man she has chosen as her own at an early age, but she wants to escape the political and familial pressures of the Pride, so she runs off to try and get that “normal” life she has being vying for.
A lot happens throughout the series and Faythe’s world get turned upside down too many times to count.That emotional roller coaster is what makes this series so amazing though, and it’s impossible to deny Rachel Vincent’s talent when it comes to story telling and constructing a story and world such as the Shifters’ one.
I LOVE Faythe! Yes, she can be annoying, stubborn, hard to deal with, rude and infuriating at times, but her flaws are what makes her so lovable and believable in my eyes. She is also extremely strong, kick-ass, protective of those she loves, loyal and ready to fight for what she believes in no matter the consequences. All that more than balance out her annoying flaws, by far. She grows up and matures so much through these books that is a joy to follow her journey.
There is a romance in the series and it’s unavoidable to fall in love with Marc. He is the sweetest and most badass shifter, his love for Faythe is unparallel and if there is something that I really don’t like in the series is Faythe’s constant ambivalence towards their relationship. You just want to slap some sense into her sometimes and Marc’s willingness to wait for her is borderline pushover. However, their love is utterly believable and you can’t help but spend the whole series rooting for Faythe to get her act together, which becomes even more exasperating when Jace gets in the picture.
All in all, Shifters is a great Urban Fantasy series that has it all. An unique world full of wonders and believability, an awesome kick-ass heroine, a couple smexy heroes and a LOT of action. What can you want more in a book series? If you haven’t read this series yet, you seriously need to make up for lost time and get cracking!

xoxo,
I so can't wait to see how the series ends with Alpha. Marc or Jace... gasp... I'll be heartbroken for one of them either way. The only thing I'm worried/scared about is if Vincent will kill someone off...
I think people will be very pleased with how things turn out... ALPHA is a hard book and very sad at times... but its an amazing closing to the series =D
This is definitely one of the top series to me. It packs everything I look for in UF: grit, action, emotional turmoil, fantastic heroines, etc.
I am so sad to read Alpha. I don't want it to end. :(
me too!! I already miss Faythe and everyone else =/
Awwww =/
I do love her YA series too!!! =D
I've been dying to read this series forever. My bookstore only has Prey and Shift. :/
I love her YA series though.
I owe you a big thanks for tempting me to read this series. I had read the first 2 books, but Faythe annoyed me sooooo much that I thought never to read more... until bloggers started praising 'Prey' and 'Shift' and I knew I had to give the series another shot. THANK-GOD I did! Now I can't wait for 'Alpha' (you lucky, lucky reviewer!)
Faythe still bugs me:
"Yes, she can be annoying, stubborn, hard to deal with, rude and infuriating at times"
I just kept thinking "she's so selfish, why are two hotties chasing after her?!?" - but she does grow on you over time (a long, long time!)
Great review. Can't wait for your thoughts on 'Alpha' (I want it sooo bad!)
Thanks hon!! Im so happy you didnt give up! =D
I really hope you love Alpha!!!
I love, love, LOVE this series!! I remember being skeptical about it when deciding to buy book 1, but that totally changed after I read it! I became so addicted to this series! Really wish I had an ereader so I could've tried to get an early copy. But oh well...
Can't wait to read your review, I'm sure it's going to drive me crazy though because the wait is going to be agonizing!
I do too!!! =D so sad its over =/
I hope you love Alpha!!
*Sigh* I will be SO sad when this series is over :(
I just hope in the end, it's Marc she chooses, but without it literally killing Jace...
I love the Shifter series! I´m really excited about how everythiing will work out between Faith, Jace and Marc and in the pack. Yet I´m somehow a little sad knowing Alpha will be the final book. I know it can´t go on forever and it´s better to end it now before the series gets somehow worse, still... Just like I was really sad when Jenna Black´s Morgan Kinsley series ended.
I´m really jealous that you´ve already read Alpha. I didn´t read your review to avoid any spoilers!
xoxo!
@Kristin
My lips are sealed LOL
@Chris
There are no spoilers in this review hon! no worries= )
and yeah i was sad too!! such an amazing series... =D
And you KNOW I appreciate your being tight lipped! ;-)
This is one series I have yet to pick up, but I'm definitely adding it to my list now!
You can't imagine the shade of green I turned when I realized that you have already gotten to read Alpha! I LOVE this series! Loved it from the first page and Alpha is my most waited for book. Happy Reading.
This is one of my favorite series too (I actually have a post coming up at Smokinhotbooks later this week about it!). I love Marc but I love Jace too :)
I got my early copy of Alpha and it's killing me not to read it yet!!!
@Kristin LOL
@Emily oh you gotta read it! SO good =D
@Beverly I feel the same way! hehe awww October 1st is not that far away =D
@Patti
Why are you waiting to read it hon??? OMG! its so good!
First of all let me say that I love how you did an 'all inclusive' review of the series so far. I'm sure I'm one of the few that have to start this series (I feel like I'm saying that quite often lately). So for me to have an overview of what it's about is helpful.
I've heard mixed reviews on this series, but overall it seems that people really enjoy it, that's why it's on my TBR. I really need to get crackin' on it!!
Thanks for the overview!
@Tanya
Thanks hon! =D
I really love this series and I do hope you get a chance to read it and love it as much as I do!
