Hello dear readers =) I’d like you all to give a warm welcome to author Caitlin Kittredge!

I am a huge fan of her Nocturne City and Black London Series.

She has a new YA novel out… “The Iron Thorn” and is offering a Signed copy of it to a lucky winner…

Enjoy…

When did you first start writing?

I competed my first novel at age 13.  It was terrible.6924798 (2)

Have you always enjoyed Fantasy?

Yes.  I always really enjoyed all types of genre fiction--SF, mysteries, paranormal fiction.  I started reading Stephen King when I was about 10 and didn't look back.

Why writing Urban Fantasy?

I'm really drawn to the idea of paranormal elements in our modern world, with all the associated complications and inherent spookiness.

51T6fGOeuVL Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?

I was very inspired by Neil Gaiman's Sandman series when I was first writing fantasy in college.

What is your favorite subject in the Urban Fantasy Realm?

Oh, I couldn't pick one--I love finding really obscure fantasy elements and creatures, while at the same time I also love well-known tropes like werewolves and demon hunters.

Favorites:

Favorite Paranormal themed Movie? Let the Right One In (Swedish version)5989616

Favorite Paranormal themed TV Show? Supernatural

Favorite Paranormal themed Book? Impossible question! :P

Favorite Author? Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, Charlie Huston, Raymond Chandler

Favorite Urban Fantasy Author? Stacia Kane

Favorite Genre that is NOT your own? Crime noir

Favorite one of your Books? The Iron Thorn

51FPzOPUjZL Who is your favorite of your own characters? Why?

It's a tie between Jack Winter from my Black London novels and Aoife from The Iron Thorn

Jack because he's devil-may-care and very Id-driven...he honestly doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, plus he's got snazzy magic powers.  Aoife because she's very ordinary, and has to deal with otherworldly situations, but she always manages to keep her head and get herself out of bad situations with her brain, rather than relying on others to save her.

Which was the hardest to write?

The Iron Thorn, definitely...it was like a growth spurt in terms of writing ability, and it was SO HARD to finish and polish the multiple drafts, because I kept being convinced I was just making it worse.
What would you be if not a writer?

I'd be a photographer--I love photography of all types and I'd definitely try to make a living out of it if I for some reason wasn't a full-time writer any more.5988375

If you Could be a Paranormal Being, Who would you be?

None...it's a lot of work being a fantasy creature!  I would, however, love to have some superpowers.

If you could meet ay Urban Fantasy Character out there, Who would you like to meet?

Either the Locke family from Joe Hill's Locke & Key series or Chess and Terrible from Stacia Kane's Downside books.

Quickies:

Reading or Writing? Both!

Print or eBook? Print.

51Q6n6mP WL Hardback or Paperback? Doesn't matter.

YA novels or Adult novels? Depends on my mood.

Library or Bookstore? My mother is a librarian, so I'm obligated to say library!

Summer or Winter? Winter.  I hate being too warm.

The Movie or The Book? The book, except in rare cases.  I think Fight Club is the only movie adaptation that exceeds the book.  Oh, and Bubba Ho-Tep, which is based on a short story by Joe Landsdale.  Old Elvis fighting a mummy really needs to be seen on screen.

PNR or UF? UF.  I'm not much of a romance reader.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

When I figure out sticky plot points and get to feel smart!

What is your least favorite part?6122181

Sitting down and getting the plot into a first draft.

The Black London Series in your own words?

Punk rock magic and things that go bump in the night.

Any plans to revisit the world and characters from the Nocturne City series?

Currently, no.  The series was always pretty much meant to be 5 books long, and I deliberately left a few loose ends I COULD revisit, but right now my publisher isn't talking more novels.

6234910 (1) Can you tell us a bit about your new Y.A. book?

The Iron Thorn is a steampunk fantasy set in an alternate 1950s, about a girl destined to go mad on her 16th birthday, and her search for her brother, who's been kidnapped by the Fae.

Any plans for more Books in the series?

I'm currently contracted for two more.

What is coming up next for you?

I'm working on a number of novels and proposals this year, but mainly working on the third YA novel and the 5th Black London book.

What are you working on right now?

Edits to the second volume of the YA.

Do you have any advice or tip to those who want to become a published Author someday?9879200

Write what you're passionate about, and develop a writing schedule that you can stick with.  (Doesn't have to be every day.  Just has to lead to steady progress.) And "practice makes perfect" is a cliche, but so true.

Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?

Thanks for being my fans.  Thanks for reading my books, and your incredible support and enthusiasm.  I love all of you, and you make it possible for me to keep writing!

Thank you so much for being here!

Thank you, Larissa!

  39. Anne says:

I'm so sad to read that Daemon's Mark is the last Nocturne book. I like this series, and Luna, the most.

I read the Black London series, but I find Jack to be a bit too harsh to be likeable. Why the female character (Poppy, Petunia??? I know it's a flower and begins with P)puts up with his abuse is beyond me.

  40. Aik says:
