Today, we have experts on Out-Of-This-World travel to give you some suggestions for how to make the most of your summer vacation.

Vacation Tips from Jeff and Kitty Katt-Martini (stars of the Alien/Katherine “Kitty” Katt series by Gini Koch, from Penguin/DAW Books)

Kitty: Hey all! I’m Katherine “Kitty” Katt --

Martini: You mean you’re Kitty Martini now.

Kitty: Oh, right, right. Sorry. Still adjusting. I think Katt-Martini looks best, by the way.

Martini: I don’t.

Kitty: Well, The Creator uses it for me, so I’m going with it.

Martini: She only uses it so when someone’s calling for us, we know which Commander Martini they want.

Kitty: Jeff? I think you’re proving my point. So, anyway, I narrate a true-life series about what it’s like to live and work with the hottest people on the planet. And, it turns out, the hottest people on other planets, too.

Martini: We also save the world on a regular basis. And we’ve given Earth some major scientific, medical and technological advances. I think that’s more important than how we look.

Kitty: But how you all look is a really nice benefit.

Martini: For you. For us, well, you know we don’t care about looks all that much.

Kitty: So, you’re saying you married me for my brains?

Martini: Yes, actually. Don’t get me wrong, you’re the sexiest girl in the galaxy. But if you weren’t smart, gutsy and a lot of fun, well…

Kitty: Nice to have the reassurance. Anyhow, we’re here today at Larissa’s request to share some vacation tips. And I really put some time into this, made a list and everything. But Jeff, I’ll let you go first.

Martini: Avoid war zones.

Kitty: Unless you’re ready for action!

Martini: I’d still suggest avoiding. Cabo’s nice.

Kitty: Cabo’s great. However, unless you want everyone in the world going there, we need to discuss other locations.

Martini: I’m ambivalent about Las Vegas.

Kitty: We got married there.

Martini: Yes, and that’s why I think it’s great. The rest of what went on in Vegas can stay in Vegas.

Kitty: We saved the world. Again.

Martini: We did. I also got my butt kicked by the leader of the Amazonian Attack Force, had people trying to thrust a kingship on me, and had to deal with both sets of families. And hewas there.

Kitty: Really, Jeff, I married you, not Chuckie.

Martini: Uh huh. You know, I just looked at your suggested vacation destinations list. In addition to Vegas and Cabo, you’re listing Aspen, Vail, New York City, Sydney, Paris, Hawaii…I haven’t taken you to any of these places.

Kitty: You’ve taken me to New York and Paris!

Martini: True. But a lot of what you’re suggesting people do there…we didn’t do. We had a romantic river trip on the Seine and dinner at the Eiffel Tower, but we never toured the Louvre or rolled in the grass at Versailles. You went to all these places with him, didn’t you?

Kitty: As friends! Other than Vegas.

Martini: I wish I’d had you do this interview with someone else.

Kitty: You’d want me to do this with Chuckie?

Martini: Good point. So, why Hawaii?

Kitty: It’s pretty, and I think pineapples are really tasty. Even if they appear to be the international fruit of threats and badness.

Martini: You sunburn.

Kitty: As with Cabo, I wear the sunscreen, I stay under the umbrella, I remain looking like me instead of resembling a bipedal lobster.

Martini: Paris and New York are self-explanatory. So is Vegas, really. Aspen and Vail?

Kitty: Stop making that face. I know they’re cold. But if you want to ski, they rock! So does Mammoth. And Big Bear.

Martini: I don’t ski.

Kitty: I realize that. But some people like to. I like to.

Martini: With him.

Kitty: I’d ski with you, but you don’t like the cold, remember? Even though I think you handle it better than I do.

Martini: Huh. Fine. Let’s see what else you have here. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, all good, okay. The Grand Canyon, Prescott, Jerome, Flagstaff, Sedona. Fine, pushing the northern Arizona areas you love, can’t argue. Wait a second. You have Alpha Four on this list! And…hang on…you have, and I quote, the Major Doggie planet, the Cat People planet, the Giant Lizard planet, and the Amazonian planet.

Kitty: Girls only for that last one! But you’ll have an awesome time!

Martini: You can’t seriously be suggesting that the readers plan a trip to the Alpha Centaurion system, can you? Wait, what am I thinking? It’s you. Of course you can be suggesting this. They can’t go.

Kitty: They could. If someone took them. We have a lot of single agents of both sexes and all sexual orientations. I think we could set up a system. You know, the human vacationer puts in their request, we find the appropriate A-C, they go on a dream date that’s truly out of this world.

Martini: It’s bad enough you match-make in the books. Now you’re trying to hook the readers up with our agents?

Kitty: I am the poster girl for interspecies marriage. And I can absolutely state that every vacation is improved if you’re with an A-C.

Martini: I know when to close the deal, and I’m going to let you have that last word.

Kitty: Only one of the many reasons I love you, Jeff.
