One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6)

The grave is one wrong step away.
Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans' voodoo queen just keeps on giving--leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.
Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This year, however, a determined Cat and Bones must risk all to send him back to the other side of eternity--forever. But how do you kill a killer who's already long dead?

One Grave at a Time: A Night Huntress Novel

*SPOILER FREE

Cat & Bones are back again! Two Cat & Bones novels in one year is awesome! I am also very happy to say that I enjoyed One Grave at a Time much more than I did This Side of the Grave. The action was pretty great and we had a lot of Ian time, which I adored.
I also enjoyed the military plotline and I hope we get more of it in the next book.
One Grave at a Time was still not my fave in the series, but not my least favorite either =)  I also missed Vlad in this one, though I will forgive Jeaniene, because we do have his spin-off coming up hehe.
Now onto the bad news =/ Sigh, what was once one of my favorite UF couples, might be hitting a bit of stagnant period in their relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I still love them, but they are so happy and stable together that I have to agree with my girl Danielle from ALPHA reader, it might be time to bring in an amnesia plotline or throw in the towel and have this power duo as beloved secondary characters in Vlad’s spin-off.
All in all, I am not ready to give up on this series yet, not even close. I love Jeaniene’s writing, world and stories and all that will definitely keep me coming back for more again and again, specially since Jeaniene has absolutely becoma an auto-buy author for me. This is an amazing series and a must read for any Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance fan out there!
But, I do have come to expect a lot from this series, and the last couple books just haven’t reached my expectations of greatness for these characters.

"have this power duo as beloved secondary characters in Vlad’s spin-off."

YES! I am totally for that! I think Vlad is more than ready to carry this series (especially if him and his girl don't take the Cat/Bones route and hook up in the first book?)

I would miss Cat's narration, but I think they could be amusing now only as secondary characters. *gulp* it's hard to write that!

Maybe even Tate could take the spotlight and get his own romance going with someone? I don't know. But I think it all leads back to Cat and Bones retiring from the spotlight...

  2. I really love this series and can't wait till I get my hands on the new book! =D

  3. Jet says:

I have only read up to the third book and I really enjoy Cat & Bones, but it sounds like from the review that the series has hit a plateau with the books afterward, which is slighty worrying. I'll keep reading though.

  4. I am currently reading the first Night Huntress book. It's pretty awesome so far. Can't wait to read more.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  5. I love this series, but I do agree with your feelings about the last coulple of books. I still look forward to the future books though and I'm really looking forward to Vlad's books :-)

Thanks so much the giveaway! :-) It would be great to win a signed book!

  6. This is one of the best UF series out there, I can't wait to get my hands on this book :)

    Great review, as always!

  7. Birgit says:

I still have part one of the series on my ginormous TBR pile, BUT the point is I love the premise of the series and am reading so many great things about them, that I couldn't resist entering. Is it weird to claim that Cat and Bones already seem familiar without having read the book (the one with the thin dust layer, ahem)?

  12. Your review is dead on! This was a good read but I've found the last two books in this series to be lacking a certain je ne sais quoi. I definitely did miss Vlad too. I can't wait for when his spin-off is published!

  16. Awesome review! I did enjoy this one, but agree that it was lacking a certain finesse. But it was still enjoyable. Missed Vlad of course, but was super happy to have Ian there! He's one of my faves!

  17. Jesse Lee says:

I don't know, I haven't had a problem with the series just yet. Ian was awesome in the book, he provided much comic relief, but yeah Vlad was missing.

Well, I love this series so much! So it´s clear that I can´t wait to read this book too :) But It´s a shame that there wasn´t Vlad this time. I really like him so I think I´ll miss very much!
Anyway I think that two fisrt books were best♥

Thank you so much for the chance to win♥

  24. andie says:

Night Huntress is always on the top on my "MUST READ" list. But yeah, the previous book was a little disappointing. I'm on the 200th page of OGAAT, but i really like it, though it's different from the others. I miss Cat&Bones' time alone and yep i miss Vlad, too, but Ian and Tyler are so funny!! However I still obsessed with this Series and the spin-offs, too!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. Can you believe I have yet to check out this series. x

  26. I think the opposite of you about their relationship. I think they're finally over all that crap in the beginning and their relationship is great right now. I love not having to worry about Cat doing something stupid. Still, nice review :-)

  32. I absolutely love Cat & Bones! They are my favorite book couple!

  33. winnie says:

I really liked this book but I agree that it felt like it was lacking certain tension since Cat and Bones are now stable and happy. But on the other hand, I do like this state of their relationship since it's a bit refreshing to read about.

This is my absolute favourite book series so I definitely look forward to more books from Jeaniene!

I love Bones and Cat's relationship, they've been through so much, I think they deserve a little calm and some down time - let others have problems they can help with.

No amnesia plot, I can't see how that would be good for Cat and Bones. I liked the book but it was not one of my favorites in the series. I like the military story line and I loved Tyler! He cracked me right up.
