I gotta say that when I saw the theme that won, I was like “cool, this is gonna be fun” and then I started researching and discovered that it is much harder than I thought.
I read about a LOT of heroines, but a lot of them use knives, guns and not a whole lot go all the way to swords LOL
But I was able to find 5 I love in the end hehe.

I haven't read about any of those heroines, though I have had my eye on the Kate Daniels series for a while. :)
My top five would probably be Eowyn from LOTR, Meghan from the Iron Fey, Alanna from the Tortall novels, Harry from The Blue Sword and Morgan from Star of the Morning. (Not necessarily in that order.)
Oooh, good one!
1) Eowyn from Lord of the Rings-- she's the original asskicking shieldmaiden and killed the king of the ringwraiths.
2) Sorsha from Willow--she kicked Val Kilmer's ass all over that book.
3) Zara Lain from Skyla Dawn Cameron's Bloodlines series takes no crap but dishes it out real well.
4) Hermione Granger. Granted, she's using a wand instead of a sword, but she still holds her own against Death Eaters twice as old as she, so I think she's earned the nod.
5) And yes, while I know the TV show came before the books, I still have to put a nod in for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She epitomizes Girl Power.
