Lala's Book Corner / Demonica Week Day #3 - Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione

"
Pleasure is their ultimate weapon . . .
Runa Wagner never meant to fall in love with the sexy stranger who seemed to know her every deepest desire. But she couldn’t resist the unbelievable passion that burned between them, a passion that died when she discovered his betrayal and found herself forever changed. Now, determined to make Shade pay for the transformation that haunts her, Runa searches for him, only to be taken prisoner by his darkest enemy.

A Seminus Demon with a love-curse that threatens him with eternal torment, Shade hoped he’d seen the last of Runa and her irresistible charm. But when he wakes up in a dank dungeon chained next to an enraged and mysteriously powerful Runa, he realizes that her effect on him is more dangerous than ever. As their captor casts a spell that bonds them as lifemates, Shade and Runa must fight for their lives and their hearts—or succumb to a madman’s evil plans."

From GoodReads.

I can't thank you all enough for the amazing support and participation so far. There is so much more to come in Demonica Week and I'm glad to have you all with me for the ride =)

Now to the review of My Love's (Shade) Book hehe...

After "Pleasure Unbound" (PU), Book 1 in the Demonica series, I was totally into Shade. I know that it was Doc E's book, but I so couldn't help it. Shade caught my eyes and when I dug into "Desire Unchained" (DU) I was so happy to finally get to read his story.

I came into this book with pretty high expectations. I loved PU so much that I was expecting a lot from Shade's book. I am happy to say that DU not only met my expectations, but simply raised the bar for me. I find that with each book Larissa Ione's writing just gets better and better and this series has already taken its well deserved place in my Top 10 favorite series.

The stakes are so high in this book that it got me bitting my nails. I was so apprehensive as to how the situation with Shade's curse was going to go down and I loved how it turned out. Runa is definitely perfect mate and I really liked that they had had a (sort of) relationship before that didn't work. No, I'm not crazy. It is just that, for me, that is a very true reflection of life.

"he reached for her, knowing he was making a huge mistake. She came to him willingly, folded herself against his chest. She felt good like that, her warmth surrounding him, filling him in places that had been empty and cold for so long."

They weren't perfect for each other then, time was necessary and certain circumstances were very necessary to make them the people they are now and for them to reach the point in their lives that they were finally ready for each other. Life molds us and sometimes we can meet the right person at the wrong time. I'm happy that Shade and Runa finally got the timing right in the end. A lot of people don't.

We get a very specific villain in this book and it is such an unexpected and nasty one at that. I was really afraid for the characters lives and when things get to such high stakes, it just makes the reading experience better.

I also really enjoyed the parallel story with Kynan and Gem. My heart bleeds for them and I do hope they get to be together in the future. That is another case of bad timing and it just breaks my heart. They are such charismatic and interesting characters that you can't help but get involved in their story.

Ione's writing is superb. The world she created in intriguing and terrifying, a world you just want to know more and more about. Her characters have such depth, even the secondary ones, and it is so much fun to get to know each and everyone of them.

"Both of Shade’s hands were on her shoulders …“I can smell your desire, Runa,” he murmured in a coaxing, seductive tone. The man was sex on legs, an overwhelming mass of muscle, testosterone, and sensuality for which she had no defense. Nothing had prepared her for something like this. She doubted any woman could be prepared for Shade. At least not mentally."

There were a lot of Hot scenes in this book and My Shade (hehe) is sexy as hell. Runa and him together almost put my laptop screen on fire hehe =)

I recommend this book to all Paranormal Romance fans out there. This is a series that cannot be missed!

I'll give 5/5 loveys

Smut Level is 5/5 =)))

  1. I lurve Larissa Ione's Demonica series this much *spans arms as wide as they can go* I cannot wait for Lore's story coming out in January!!!

  2. @michelle

    I have to agree with hehe

    it would be awesome to experience them again for the first time =)))

  3. michelle says:

    I know I'm preaching to the choir, but this is an awesome series! I wish I could erase my memory so I can read them all over again for the first time :)

  4. OMG I can't wait to read Shade's book!!!!!!! AGGGHHH!!! I need to get on that shit immediately.

  5. Jessie B says:

    I love this series and I actually just did a re-read of this book last week :)

  6. i think was the most different of the brothers--he's darker with the whole BDSM stuff and he's different from other heroes i've read. i can't say i like this character but i did like his and runa's story. i thought his book was the most intense of the three i thought.

  7. I'm SOOO glad you liked Shade's book! It's the one that takes the most criticism...it's so dark and different in tone from book 1. But something you said is EXACTLY what I was going for:

    "Runa is definitely perfect mate and I really liked that they had had a (sort of) relationship before that didn't work. No, I'm crazy. It is just that, for me, that is a very true reflection of life.

    They weren't perfect for each other then, time was necessary and certain circumstances were very necessary to make them the people they are now and for them to reach the point in their lives that they were finally ready for each other. Life molds us and sometimes we can meet the right person at the wrong time."

    YES!

    I always consider how, if I'd met my husband a few years before I did, we wouldn't have made it. No way. We both had so much to learn, so much maturing and changing to do.

    But by the time we met, we were ready for each other.

    Shade and Runa couldn't work when they met. And yes, Shade was a total jerk the first time they were together, but his actions led to a life-changing event for her, something that needed to happen to make her the person she became.

    I know the story doesn't work for some people, but I'm very glad it worked for you!

    Thanks for the wonderful review, and again, thank you for Demonica Week!

  8. @Rex

    argh! you so have to! hehe

    @Jessie

    oh awesome!

    @Chelley

    Shade is my guy hehe he just has something that draws me to him =)

    @Larissa

    I absolutely LOVED that about this book! life is like that, timing is everything!

    Like you said, Shade was a jerk, but that led to the change Runa needed to become a stronger woman and in consequence to become the perfect woman for Shade.

    Shade needed to go through all that time alone to learn to appreciate Rina when the time was right for her to be his.

    I LOVE that!

    Interesting to know that you feel like that about your husband. There are some people that have passed through my life that I totally feel the same way. in their case, the timing was off hehe.

    It's my pleasure!!!

  9. Wendy says:

    Oh, man I have to read this book!!

    I agree... Runa is so relatable and likable =))

  14. @Wendy
